What makes a good April bulletin board?

Because bulletin boards are all about personalization, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to what makes a good bulletin board. After all, bulletin boards are a way to convert blank wall space into an extension of your teaching – whether it’s sharing information, engaging students, displaying work, or simply creating a welcoming environment for all.

A good bulletin board design is one that serves a specific purpose and is tailored to the needs of the classroom. Consider this; students can look to a bulletin board for independent activity or information without asking a teacher for assistance. It’s a great way to reinforce curriculum or classroom rules, among other things.

Most classroom boards serve one or more of three purposes:

Display/Decor
These boards can be used to proudly display student work and to pull together class themes and create a welcoming learning environment.

Interactive
Interactive boards provide students with independent activities and the information they need to complete the task.

Informational
Whether you are sharing information about class expectations and events or curriculum materials, an informational board is an easy way to communicate with students.

The board design should be based on its purpose. We like to plan out the purpose, the theme, and the budget before we create any bulletin board. Supplies for creative boards don’t have to be expensive, particularly given the breadth of resources available online. Many designs can be created using extra art supplies, or printed clip art or other materials. Consider getting students in on the action by having them help design or contribute work or materials to the bulletin board.

April bulletin boards and door decor can centre around the coming of spring, flowers, rain or sunshine, just to name a few ideas. If you’re still feeling stuck, check out our inspiring list of April bulletin boards we love, below.
