English months, days, and seasons game - I have...Who has?
ELA, Language Development, ESL, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Games, Activities

The English months, days, and seasons game - I have...Who has? This is a unique educational resource aimed at enhancing students' understanding and recognition of the months, days, and seasons in the English language. It offers an easy-to-use learning tool ideal for students between 1st to 8th grade. What's Included? The resource includes a total of 27 cards that can either be handled by individual students or shared among pairs depending on your class size or group. To make them last longer, you could consider printing and laminating these cards for reuse. How Does It Work? The principle behind this game is simple but effective. The journey starts with a card marked 'I'll start the game'. A typical example would be something like 'I have May,' followed by 'Who has Autumn?' The student who has the 'Autumn' card responds appropriately by throwing in their own question like ‘Who has Thursday?’ This back-and-forth continues until all cards are used up, ending with the statement ‘The Game is over!’ Note: For more engaging sessions, divide your class under two teams each armed with a set of these cards. Make it competitive; whoever finishes first wins! Where Can It Be Used? This game isn't confined only to ESL (English as Second Language) classrooms; it fits right into any environment where English is the main spoken language – making it universal! Encourage discussions among learners both within diverse classroom settings or homeschooling environments. Life made simple with essential knowledge just one card away!.

Ice Cream Graph Activity

Ice Cream Graph Activity
Math, Graphing, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Activities

If you are looking for exciting and impactful ways to have students practice with organizing data and graphing, look no more! This is an Ice Cream Graph Activity for your students to take part in. It may be used best with 2nd – 5th grade math students. In this data and graphing activity, students will collect data on their favorite ice cream flavors before organizing it into a graph. Here’s what the lesson might look like as an introduction to, or review of, graphing… o Explain to the students that they will be choosing the flavor of ice cream they like the best out of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate chip. o Give each student an ice cream cone and allow time for them to color it according to the flavor they’ve chosen. It must look like that flavor, or it won’t count as useful data! o As students finish coloring their ice cream cones, have them tape their cones randomly to the board. o When all ice cream cones have been taped to the board, ask the class some questions. The point is to show students that it’s very difficult to read this data because it isn’t organized. This is where graphing comes in very handy! o You may either do this yourself or ask for student helpers but sort out the cones according to flavors on the board. Explain that the students will be making a pictograph on their own paper while you make one either on the floor or on a board all students can see. o Together, create a graph for these ice cream flavors. Students will need to decide on a title and a key. o When the graph is complete, discuss the kinds of answers someone can determine from this graph (e.g., 4 students like vanilla the best, more students like chocolate than chocolate chip, etc.) As a class, make a list of possible questions you could ask others to answer based on the data shown on your graph. Punctuation Pasta Project

Punctuation Pasta Project
ELA, Grammar, Grade 4, 5, 6, Activities, Projects

This is a Punctuation Pasta Project for big kids! This project is focused on commas, parentheses, and dashes with a bonus quotation mark review included. I love room transformations; students are going to remember moments and therefore, the content associated with those moments much more easily. Create an Italian restaurant in your classroom with plastic tablecloths or red and white butcher paper. I bought glass candleholders & electric tealights at the dollar store that I repurpose for other room transformations. Italian music/photos on the board, a crockpot full of simmering tomato sauce & some breadsticks on the tables hit all the senses! Place a table tent and one punctuation card per pair of students on each table. You will also need a plate or bowl full of dried pasta. For this particular lesson, you will need spaghetti or fettuccini for the dashes, small elbow macaroni for commas & quotation marks, & large elbow macaroni for parentheses. Students simply place the pasta in the spots on the cards where the punctuation is missing. I do one activity at a time (have students complete with their partner and then go over answer key before distributing next card). Early finishers can work on pasta plate practice activity. This lesson was specifically designed for 6th grade, and the accompanying PowerPoint teaches L.6.2a, but the pasta punctuation cards can work with L.4.2a, and L.5.2a, as well. There is a companion slideshow that will provide rules, practice and examples!
