You've reviewed your notation with your students, and you want to make sure they know their quarters, eighth pairs, halves, wholes, etc, right? InBeat Boxing, it's not the imitation of sounds, rather the students will be given a number of beats… maybe 3, maybe 5, maybe 6, or 2, or 4, and so on. This will be displayed on the powerpoint slide along with boxes of different combinations of beats (progressively, there will be more options as the game goes along) But, onlyONEof them will be the answer to the number shown Have the students identify which box of rhythms matches the number shown. Quarter Notes, Eighth Note Pairs, Whole Notes, AND dotted notes are in this series (remember, the dot adds half the value of the note that precedes it!) In addition, there's aREMIXat the end where the boxes are reversed. Ahhh! Have fun with this and let me know how the lesson goes :)

Whether students are writing argumentative essays or opinion writing, you probably have students sources evidence to support their writing. We know that our writing may only be as strong as the sources we pull our information from. Teaching students how to find strong sources is an important skill. This is a Choosing Reliable Sources Lesson to help students determine which sources can be trusted and which ones cannot. The objective is for students to recognize credible and reliable sources by using the CRAAP test. The CRAAP acronym is as follows: C – currency R – relevance A – authority A – accuracy P – purpose Students will learn about peer reviewed journals and the 6 indicators of a reputable journal. This beginning sound sort for the letter A is a great hands on activity for recognizing the beginning sounds of the letter A. This is an easy and fun activity to give students who need practice with recognizing the letter A sound in both its long and short form or for those students who need extra practice distinguishing between the initial sounds in words. To complete this sorting activity , students will look at an item an astronaut is holding to determine if the picture begins with the long or short sound of A and then the students will place the astronaut on the correct scene.
