Setting the foundation for reading is a major feat for teachers because we strive to make all of our students feel successful. There are many moving pieces to this new skill for young learners. Learning letter sounds is one of the many necessary components. Another skill that we tackle is identifying and applying beginning letter sounds. That is the objective of this product. This is a What Beginning Letter Sounds do you Hear? Worksheet packed with 3 pages of practice for students. From page to page, students will look at each image and determine what sound it begins with. Students will write the letter that represents that sound in the box below the image. There are 10 images apiece on the first two pages. There are 6 images on the last page. So, there is 1 box per each letter of the alphabet. This worksheet is most appropriate for students being introduced to or reviewing beginning letter sounds: preschool – 1st grade students. You can implement this activity in a few ways: 1. Independent work 2. Early finishers 3. Small group 4. Literacy centers If you want them to use these over and over again, you can laminate each page and have students use dry erase markers. Meal Planning for Kids – Food Coloring Pages (3 Pages) I put together this mini set of coloring pages to help with getting through the day when some kids just need a break from regular school break. These coloring sheets can also be a a simple way to start conversations with kids about food choices and meal planning—without making it feel like a “lesson.” These are coloring pages, but they’re also a great prompt for talking about breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and what makes a meal feel balanced. Kids can color the pictures any way they like (I love seeing purple carrots)! While they color, you can use the pages to introduce or review basic food groups and help children notice that meals are usually made from a mix of different foods. Easy ways to use these pages: Nutrition theme week (quick, no-prep activity) - For example, "National Nutrition Month" is in March! Health class / guidance / homeschool Early finishers or calm-down activity Family and consumer science “lite” for younger kids A simple writing or discussion prompt (favorite meal, “what would you serve,” etc.) Optional extensions (if you want to add learning without extra materials): Ask kids to circle foods that could be part of breakfast vs. dinner Have them to name one fruit/vegetable they’d add to a meal Create a “My Meal Plan” discussion: What would you choose for breakfast/lunch/dinner?
