Themed Reading Comprehension Passages Series - Cinco de Mayo This reading comprehension series is built for grades 2 to 5 and keeps things simple, clear, and easy to use. Every title follows a fun, kid-friendly theme and comes with two passage levels, one written for grades 2 to 3 and a more challenging version for grades 4 to 5. Students then work through a mix of follow-up pages that check understanding in different ways: multiple-choice questions, short written responses, scrambled words, a quick summary, and a theme-based word problem. Answer keys are included, so prep stays minimal. Each resource also comes in nine classroom-friendly formats, so you can choose what fits your setup: print or digital, editable or ready to go, and even self-grading options. Because the layout stays consistent, it is easy to plug into whole-class lessons, small groups, literacy centers, morning work, fast finisher tubs, sub plans, or home learning. It is a straightforward way to build comprehension, practice reading skills in context, and strengthen written responses without adding extra steps for you. Cinco de Mayo Lesson List Note: This product has titles different to those in the rest of the themed series. 1. History of Cinco de Mayo 2. Mexican Traditions 3. Mexican Food and Drink 4. Mexican Celebrations and Symbols 5. Spanish Vocabulary FILLABLE PDF VERSION Worksheet-style pages, but with type-in answer boxes so students can complete and save their work digitally. Other versions are available in the links list below or in the full catalog. Students read two leveled passages (Grades 2–3 and Grades 4–5), then move through a short, consistent sequence of activities that checks understanding and keeps momentum: multiple-choice, brief written responses, a scrambled-words review, a compact summary task, and a light theme-linked word problem. The flow is predictable for students, but varied enough to feel fresh across topics. Each completed resource includes: Two differentiated reading passages (lower and upper level) A multiple-choice comprehension page Short written-response questions A scrambled-words or quick vocabulary check A brief summary activity A simple, theme-connected word problem Answer keys for fast marking and easy self-checking Nine classroom-friendly formats, including print, editable, digital, and self-grading options Themes Included These readings span a wide range of age-appropriate, high-interest topics, such as: Seasons and celebrations Real-world science and nature Community, character, and life skills Everyday high-frequency themes students already enjoy Each title connects to familiar experiences while strengthening comprehension, vocabulary in context, and clear written expression. Easy extensions (optional): Read twice: first for gist, second to highlight key details Write two “right there” questions and swap with a partner Create a 3-bullet fact list or mini mind map Turn the summary into a 3-sentence retell using sequence words Add one extra math question connected to the topic Compare the two levels: what details appear in both? Differentiation tips: Pre-teach 2–3 key words with quick examples Offer sentence starters for written responses Use partner reading: one reads aloud, one tracks evidence Allow highlighting or underlining before answering questions Provide a shorter chunking option for students who need breaks Encourage confident readers to justify answers with a quoted detail For similar downloads and other frees, do check out Cored Group on TeachSimple.

High School 20 St. Patrick's Day Writing Prompts & Note-Taking Sheets

ELA, Reading, Writing, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, St. Patrick's Day, Research, Resources for Teachers, High School, Homeschool Resources, Worksheets & Printables, Writing Prompts, Teacher Tools, Assessments, Quizzes and Tests, Outlines, Lesson Plans

Finding a high-quality holiday resource that does not feel like "busy work" can be such a struggle once your student/homeschooler reaches the high school years. As a homeschool mom to a 9th grader and a resource creator, I know exactly how hard it is to find that sweet spot between seasonal fun and the academic rigor our teens actually need. I originally designed this High School 20 St. Patrick's Day Writing Prompts and 20 Note-Taking Sheets bundle for my own daughter based on questions she had about St. Patrick's Day. I wanted to create something that would truly encourage her to sharpen her research skills while practicing the high-level critical reflection I expect for her secondary education. It has been a lifesaver in our home as a time-saving, "no-prep" solution that brings real intellectual depth to our day without adding another stressful item to my already long to-do list. INCLUDED IN THIS RESOURCE: A detailed text exploring real history and myths to provide a strong foundation for research. Critical thinking questions that prioritize historical analysis over simple reading comprehension. Specially designed pages to help students/homeschoolers organize thoughts and brainstorm before they begin writing. Detailed paragraph-style responses to facilitate deep discussions and make grading your student's/homeschooler's work quick and easy. TOPICS COVERED: Explore the actual life of St. Patrick and the real symbolism behind the legendary shamrock. Analyze scientific evidence versus the allegorical reasons why this myth persists in modern history. Evaluate Ireland’s massive cultural impact and the diversity within Irish heritage and traditions. Dig into the commercialization of holidays and how traditions evolve and change over time. By combining research with structured writing, we are giving our teens the tools to grow as deep thinkers and skilled writers without any added fluff. Having everything in one place has created such a seamless workflow in our own daily routine, and I feel confident handing this to my daughter knowing it respects her maturity. My hope is that this helps your family transform seasonal studies into a truly meaningful exploration of Irish history, culture and origin of St. Patrick's Day. It has been the perfect way for us to celebrate the season while checking off those important high school educational boxes. If you and your students/homeschoolers enjoyed this resource, please leave a review. Thank you for your support! Tina - Big Easy Homeschooling Mom

As a fellow homeschool mom of a 9th grader and a resource creator, I know how hard it can be to find high school-level materials that are both academically rigorous and genuinely engaging. I have spent years tailoring lessons for my own student/homeschooler to ensure they are not just reading for facts but are truly understanding the cultural "why" behind the world around them. That is why I am so excited to share this "Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler" combo resource, which deepens a student's/homeschooler's appreciation for Louisiana’s most iconic traditions. By pairing the history of Mardi Gras with the fascinating evolution of the King Cake , your student/homeschooler will dive into a world of cultural migration, religious history, and community spirit. These passages are designed to spark critical thinking while celebrating the vibrant tapestry of the Gulf South. INCLUDED IN THIS RESOURCE: A comprehensive high school-level reading passage on the festival's evolution. A detailed reading passage exploring the cake’s journey from Rome to Louisiana. Two sets of twenty questions each (40 total) designed to test comprehension and critical thinking. Detailed and guided answer keys for both resources to make grading and discussion effortless. WHAT'S INCLUDED: Easy-to-download and print files for your home or classroom. Introductory notes and goal-setting for the curriculum. Clear guidelines for personal and classroom use of the materials. Bake a traditional King Cake and discuss the "social contract" of the hidden baby. Whether you are a Louisiana local, a long-time resident of Louisiana (like me!) or you are teaching these traditions from across the country, this History of Mardi Gras and the King Cake provides that high-level, academic "in depth investigation" our high schoolers really need. Thank you so much for supporting my work and for letting me be a small part of your homeschool year. I hope your lessons are as bright and joyful as a Mardi Gras morning, and that your students/homeschoolers always manage to find that "hidden baby" of wisdom in everything they study! As a fellow homeschool mom currently navigating the high school years with my own 9th-grade daughter, I know exactly how tough it is to find materials that are academically rigorous enough for a transcript but actually interesting enough to keep our teens engaged. When I sat down to create The History of Valentine’s Day: From Ritual to Romance , my goal was to look past the modern-day chocolate boxes and dive deep into the fascinating, and sometimes gritty, historical roots of February 14th. This resources was also created based on questions my 9th-grade daughter had about this holiday. This is not just a simple holiday worksheet; it is a comprehensive exploration of how a single day has been reimagined by Roman priests, Christian martyrs, and medieval poets over the centuries. I really wanted to create a resource that was interesting and engaging for the high school/homeschool level and created based on questions my 9th-grade daughter had about this holiday. INCLUDED IN THIS RESOURCE: A detailed, high school reading passage 10 note-taking sheets. 20 analysis questions covering vocabulary and synthesis. Comprehensive answer key with detailed explanations. TOPICS COVERED: Ancient Roman Lupercalia and fertility rituals. Saint Valentine’s defiance of Emperor Claudius II. Chaucer and the 14th-century "Parliament of Fowls". The Industrial Revolution's impact on mass-marketed gifts. As a homeschool mom myself, I have worked hard to include everything you need to facilitate a high-level, deep-dive discussion, from the rigorous reading passage to those comprehensive note-taking sheets that my own 9th-grade daughter uses. My hope is that this resource saves you precious planning time while providing your homeschooler with a genuinely enriching academic experience that feels relevant to their world. Whether you use it as a standalone unit or a supplement to your current history curriculum, it is specifically designed to foster "evidence-based reasoning" and the kind of critical thinking skills our high schoolers need for the future. If you and your students/homeschoolers enjoy this resource, please leave a review. Thank you for your support! Tina - Big Easy Homeschooling Mom

2026 March ELA Bell Ringers
ELA, Writing, Literature, Holiday & Seasonal, Months, March, Life Studies, Resources for Teachers, St. Patrick's Day, Holidays, High School, Homeschool Resources, Teacher Tools, Assessments, Lesson Plans, Quizzes and Tests, Worksheets & Printables, Writing Prompts

As a homeschool mom, I created this 2026 March ELA Bell Ringers set because I noticed those essential skills, like rhetoric and grammar, were getting buried in the busyness of our bigger unit studies, and I did not want them forgotten. With these daily warm-ups, we now have a seamless routine that gets my daughter's brain in gear the moment she sits down. These daily warm-ups have transformed our 'slump time' into a few minutes of calm, focused critical thinking, making the jump into high school English so much easier for both of us. I love that she can complete one as she is having her piece of toast first thing in the morning and preparing for her day! INCLUDED IN THIS RESOURCE: The entire month of March 2026 is mapped out and ready to go. Focuses on high-level rhetoric, logic, and ethical inquiry. Uses prompts from historical figures to spark genuine conversation. Includes both digital (PPTX) and print (PDF) options for easy use.
