About This Product

This Groundhog's Day creative writing freebie is a great twist on traditional Groundhog's Day creative writing activities. We all know what it means when a Groundhog sees its shadow, but what happens when teachers see their shadows?  Let your students answer this question with these creative writing prompt pages!

What is Included:

This freebie has writing prompts in 2 different formats, one set with primary lines and one set with regular writing lines. The different writing lines helps teacher differentiate for students who need more support with letter formation. There are also writing pages that account for different teacher pronouns.

How to Use:

Students will write a sentence or short paragraph of how they think their teacher will react to seeing their shadow! Students will then draw a picture to illustrate their sentence or paragraph.

When to Use:

  • Independent Writing Activity - This activity can be given to students to work independently on writing their story.

  • Writing Center Activity - This assignment can be given in a writing center for students to choose to do during center rotations.

  • Homework - Teachers can sent this writing assignment home for parents to assist their child in writing their responses.

  • Morning Work - This can be a fun and engaging activity to give for morning work so students have something to work on while their classmates arrive to class.

  • Sub Plans - The fun and easy instructions of this activity make it an ideal task to leave for a substitute teacher.

These creative writing prompts are a no prep activity that teachers can assign to students. They just need to be printed out and handed to students to complete. Once created, these writing pages can be displayed in the classroom, in the hallway, or on the classroom door for others to see the creativeness of each student.
