Leveled Books: Second Grade Level J-K

This leveled book collection (258 pages) was designed for second-grade level readers. There are a total of 40 books, both fiction and nonfiction with 20 books at each level, Level J and Level K. The purpose of the books is to support academic learning in the core content areas of Social Studies, Math, Science, and auxiliary subjects by utilizing and embedding relevant ELA skills. For example, the texts are written with the Fountas and Pinnell grade-level vocabulary words and Rebecca Sitton spelling words in mind. At the end of each book, there are student activity pages to review the book's content and reinforce relevant ELA skills. The resource is very helpful to teachers who want to supplant content knowledge at a specific reading level and increase student performance in core subjects while sharpening overall ELA skills.

Learning research has shown that when students read at just-right texts, they are more fluent readers which bolsters their confidence level and increases learning.

The author, Sue Peterson, has written over 450 leveled books for readers at the K-7 levels, available on this site.
