About This Product

Here is a ready-to-go craftivity for Remembrance Day (November 11 in Canada) or Veteran's Day in the US.

Grades to Use With:

This activity is designed for students in grades two through five.

What's Included:

5 Page PDF:

Title Page

Poppy with Lines for Remembrance Day

Poppy with No Lines for Remembrance Day

Poppy with Lines for Veteran's Day

Poppy with No Lines for Veteran's Day

How to Use:

Start by reading your class an age appropriate book about Veteran's Day or Remembrance Day. Your school librarian should have some available.

Then create an anchor chart to discuss either Remembrance Day or Veteran's Day. Use the 5 W's Who, What, When, Where, Why. Ask for student input and record the ideas.

You could also read a Remembrance Day poem such as "In Flanders Fields."

Choose if you want your students to have a poppy with lines or not. You could also allow your students to choose their preference and have both versions available.

With lines: Students should write a complete sentence on each petal of the poppy to explain one of the 5 Ws. They can trade with a friend for proofreading, then they can outline their words and the petals and lightly shade them in.

Without lines: students can draw pictures and write individual words in each petal of the poppy to explain each of the 5 Ws. This is a more visual option.

I would hang these on a bulletin board in as a display a couple of weeks before Remembrance Day or Veteran's Day.
