This 'ck' digraph PowerPoint presentation is a taught lesson especially suitable for those who have special needs or need a slower pace. Special features of the 'ck' PowerPoint lesson This PowerPoint is one of a series, teaching phonics systematically, to enable every child to succeed. No words are introduced that cannot be sounded out, except common the sight words a, the. It does however presume that the child can blend both CVC words and consonant blend words with a short vowel sound, like pond. These have been taught in previous lessons. There are no distractions for the special needs child to have to 'block out' before s/he can learn - no jingly music, no comic pictures. Nothing moves quickly. Everything is explained very simply. Sound buttons are provided for use if necessary. What is included in/with the 'ck' Digraph PowerPoint? This 'ck' PowerPoint is a narrated lesson. The PowerPoint format means that you can go at a pace suitable for your pupils. It is just like having your own phonics teacher! There are 33 slides. We begin by introducing 'ck' and learning the 'ck' rule - that we only ever use 'ck' when we hear 'ack', 'eck', 'ick', 'ock' and 'uck'. The PowerPoint then goes on to help the child to sound out words with 'ck'. This is followed by some tracking exercises - short sentences where the pupil is asked to spot the 'ck' sound in the words before reading each sentence. The PowerPoint finishes with our 'star' for good effort, which children love! Also included are 16 slides of interactive activities: Read the word and match it to the picture activities. Read the sentences and choose the missing words These activities help children to integrate their new skills of reading and spelling 'ck' words into their literacy work. They also help to develop reading comprehension. How can the ‘ck' PowerPoint be used? It can be used in multiple ways: It can either be used by the child, with support from an adult, as well as to give the parents a feel for what is necessary - i.e., for training purposes. It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after seeing it in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Letter O Worksheets + PowerPoint Lesson Lesson 15 teaches the letter Oo and its related phonic sound through a 37-slide PowerPoint lesson, and 5 follow-up activity worksheets. All you need to teach the phonic letter O! Whether in school or at home, this series of phonic presentations can help you effectively teach initial/beginning sounds to all pupils, including those with special needs/dyslexia. This lesson is part of a synthetic, systematic phonics programme for all abilities, including those suspected of being dyslexic. This lesson is in the first stage of the Reading Made Simple programme, where we teach the initial, or beginning, sounds. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound is stressed throughout, while we learn to associate each letter with its sound. Each lesson can stand alone, but the activities will presume knowledge of the previous letters in the alphabet as Reading Made Simple teaches the initial sounds in alphabetical order. Special features of the Letter O Worksheets and PowerPoint presentation: The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. The PowerPoint is editable so that you can make it fit your pupils. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. IR Phonics Lesson

Here is taught lesson for the r-controlled digraph IR. Suitable for all, but especially written for the special needs pupil, this lesson is short, clear, to the point, has no distracting background music, has no distracting imagery, so helping the child to focus on the sound to be learned. The lesson begins by developing phonemic awareness of the new sound IR and a picture 'key' is provided to help the child remember the sound, one of the main difficulties when starting to learn the sound IR. The lesson then progresses to help children to read words, by sounding them out first. Learning to read through spelling is a helpful way to concentrate the pupil's mind on the lesson and to engage the pupil. We not only use words with which the child is familiar, but include some less well known IR words in order to help the child spot IR in words and sound them out. This is important as many children with a need will sound a word out accurately, but then, if they do not recognise the word, try to change it into something they do recognise. The lesson closes with an engaging task. One of the crucial tasks for the learner of IR is to spot the new sound in words and differentiate it from previously taught R - controlled words, such as AR and OR. For some children with special needs this is very hard. Therefore, this final activity asks the child to say which digraph each word contains as it floats onto the screen. The child is not required to read the words, but I find they like to! Of course, this is to be encouraged! What is included: One taught video lesson MP4 33 frames Instructions: an adult should sit with the pupil for best effect - this is not an entertainment but specialist phonics instruction. The video should be stopped as necessary and restarted when the pupil is ready to go on.

Mixed Questions The mixed questions section of each lesson includes a variation of fivecomprehension, vocabulary and math questions. In addition, key reading strategies are frequently covered including cause & effect, summarizing, compare & contrast and making conclusions. Three of the questions will be MCQs and two will require a written response of some kind. Full answers and example responses appear at the end of the lesson. Spelling & Vocab Each reading passage contains a variety of words and phrases designed for Grade 2-3 students. Spelling and vocab activities provide the opportunity to build fluency with these words. As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student.
