Astronauta Crea una Misión Spanish Debate & Writing Activity

Astronauta Crea una Misión Spanish Debate & Writing Activity
Foreign Languages, Spanish, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Teacher Tools, Presentations

Speaking. Writing. Creative problem solving. Critical thinking. This activity provides a unit study feel to a fun activity that allows students the freedom to come up with unique solutions to challenges that arise during a mission in space. Using the perspective of astronauts, they'll use everyday objects to fix problems, as well as achieve the objective of their mission. After this, they'll move on to the Create-a-Mission matrix that will give them the choice to create a unique combination of mission, team size, and challenge. This sets the scene for the second part of the activity which is modifiable for different learning needs. One option is to allow students to create a narrative writing piece about their mission. This would be used to emphasize story elements depending on the grade level. If modifying, learners could be challenged to act out or create an oral presentation on their mission. Suggested use: - Writing prompt generator - Extension game for diverse language levels - STEM or GATE classes to bring up discussions on creative problem solving - Group collaboration exercises to encourage debate and discussion - This activity can be used in various ways to meet the needs of diverse learners. Connecting 21st Century Skills with fun, situational elements, students will enjoy the challenge set before them. - While this may begin as a discussion activity, it may also double as a writing prompt when students reach the final matrix activity. - GATE and neurodiverse learners will appreciate the opportunity for choice. - Built-in differentiation with choice and flexibility for response length and complexity. This activity allows for debate in a low-stress environment as learners use creative problem solving and unique creative ideas to solve the challenges that will arise during a mission. In addition, further modification could be allowed for the writing activity to be changed to acting or a presentation.
