Guided Reading Lesson Plan & Activities Grades KG-12 (13-Book Bundle)

Guided Reading Lesson Plan & Activities Grades KG-12 (13-Book Bundle)
Reading, ELA, Reading Comprehension, Kindergarten, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Guided Reading is a research-based instruction process whereby the teacher works with small grouping of students being equal in a particular reading achievement level. The teacher provides for each reader's development of effective reading competencies. However different than in the earlier days of reading groups, small and temporary groups are flexible and dynamic. The observance and evaluation of the progress of readers are done by teachers on a systematic basis. Thus, grouping and regrouping students is based on the strengths of students and the intense changing needs throughout their reading development. In the 1960s in New Zealand, Guided Reading was developed. It was enhanced over the years after it arrived in the United States thanks to educators like Gay Su Pinnell and Lesley Fountas. In 1996, Fountas & Pinnell published their enormously influential book, Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children (Heinemann). This book changed how reading was taught, and it is still taught today to over a million teachers worldwide. The aim of Guided Reading lessons is to develop effective readers. A set of 13 books is bundled together with all 13 worksheets of the Guided Reading series for grades KG-12. There are lesson plans and different activities for every grade, with the answers in the end section of the worksheet.

Therapy Dog - Helping Students Reflect with Therapy Dogs ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’ญ

Therapy Dog - Helping Students Reflect with Therapy Dogs ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’ญ

Helping Students Reflect with Therapy Dogs ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’ญ Thereโ€™s something special about the presence of a therapy dog in the classroom. Even the most restless students seem to relax. Some kids who rarely speak up suddenly open up. And for many, itโ€™s the first time theyโ€™ve had a chance to experience the unconditional support that a dog offers. But what if we took that experience and turned it into a learning moment? Thatโ€™s exactly what this reflection activity does. It helps students think about what kindness means, why responsibility matters, and how their actions affect othersโ€”whether those others have two legs or four. Why This Activity Feels Different โœ” It gets students thinking, not just answering. Itโ€™s not about memorizing facts. Itโ€™s about pausing for a moment and reflecting on simple but meaningful questions. โœ” It connects emotions with actions. Why do therapy dogs have rules? Why does kindness matter? These questions lead to unexpectedly deep discussions. โœ” Itโ€™s easy for any grade level. Younger kids can draw their answers, while older students might write or discuss. No one feels left out. โœ” It works with or without a therapy dog. Even if your school doesnโ€™t have one, this still sparks conversations about empathy and responsibility. โœ” No prep required. Just print it out, hand it to students, and let them think. How I Use It in My Classroom ๐Ÿ“Œ First, we talk. I ask, โ€œHow do animals teach us about kindness?โ€ or โ€œWhat do therapy dogs need from us?โ€ The answers are never what I expectโ€”and thatโ€™s the best part. ๐Ÿ“Œ Then, students reflect. They complete a few simple but thoughtful prompts about their own behavior, their emotions, and what theyโ€™ve learned. ๐Ÿ“Œ Next, we share (if they want to). I never make sharing mandatory. But Iโ€™m always surprised by how many students want to. ๐Ÿ“Œ Finally, we put up the poster. Itโ€™s a small reminder that kindness and responsibility go beyond the classroom. ๐Ÿถ One more idea: If you have a therapy dog visit your class, have students read their reflections to the dog. Youโ€™d be amazed at how much more open and engaged they become! What Other Teachers Have Said โœ” โ€œI used this before our first therapy dog visit, and it made a huge difference in how students behaved around the dog.โ€ โœ” โ€œItโ€™s simple but powerful. The class discussions that came from this were amazing.โ€ โœ” โ€œPerfect for social-emotional learning, even without a therapy dog!โ€ Why This Activity Sticks with Students At the end of the day, this isnโ€™t just another worksheet. Itโ€™s a way to help students slow down, think about their actions, and reflect on what really mattersโ€”whether thatโ€™s how they interact with a therapy dog, a classmate, or the world around them. ๐Ÿ“ฅ Give it a tryโ€”you might be surprised by what your students come up with. ๐Ÿถโœจ ๐Ÿ“ Warmly, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? I teach with a certified therapy dog, and together we create a positive and inspiring learning environment. ๐Ÿถโœจ

Therapy Dog Door Signs โ€“ Keep Your Classroom Calm & Organized ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿšช A therapy dog in school is wonderfulโ€”but clear communication makes it even better! When a therapy dog is part of your school, itโ€™s important that everyoneโ€”students, teachers, and visitorsโ€”knows how to interact appropriately. Sometimes the dog is available for visits, sometimes resting, and other times they need a quiet space to recharge. Instead of constantly reminding students when itโ€™s okay to interact, these removable door signs do the work for you! With simple, easy-to-read messages, these signs help set clear expectations so that students respect the therapy dogโ€™s needs while still enjoying all the benefits of having one at school. ๐Ÿพ Why These Signs Are Helpful for Any Therapy Dog Program โœ” Prevents classroom disruptions โ€“ No more students knocking or entering at the wrong time. โœ” Helps students learn respect โ€“ Teaches kids to recognize when the therapy dog needs rest. โœ” Perfect for schools, counseling offices, and classrooms โ€“ Works anywhere a school therapy dog is present. โœ” Easy to switch โ€“ The signs are removable, so you can update them as needed throughout the day. โœ” Kid-friendly design โ€“ Simple words and visuals make it easy for even young students to understand. ๐Ÿ“Œ Whatโ€™s Included? ๐Ÿ“œ A Set of Printable Therapy Dog Door Signs ๐Ÿถ "Therapy Dog Inside โ€“ Please Enter Quietly" ๐Ÿถ "Therapy Dog Resting โ€“ Do Not Disturb" ๐Ÿถ "Therapy Dog on a Break โ€“ Will Be Back Soon" โœ” Clear and student-friendly wording โœ” Easy-to-print format for flexible use ๐Ÿ’ก How to Use These Signs in Your School ๐Ÿ“ Print & laminate for durability. These signs will last all year with lamination! ๐Ÿ“ Attach with Velcro or a removable adhesive. This makes it quick and easy to change the sign depending on the therapy dogโ€™s schedule. ๐Ÿ“ Place them at the classroom or office door. Anywhere the therapy dog is working or resting, these signs help students understand what to do. ๐Ÿ“ Let students take responsibility. Assign a student helper to change the sign when neededโ€”itโ€™s a great way to involve them in learning about animal care and respect. Why Teachers Love These Signs โœ” "My students used to walk in loudly, but now they stop and check the sign first!" โœ” "Itโ€™s made a big differenceโ€”fewer interruptions, and our therapy dog is much calmer." โœ” "I laminated them, and now theyโ€™re a daily part of our routine. So helpful!" ๐Ÿถ A Simple Solution for a Well-Organized Therapy Dog Program Bringing a therapy dog into a school setting is such a rewarding experience, but a little structure makes it even smoother. These removable therapy dog door signs help set clear expectations so that both students and the therapy dog feel safe and comfortable. ๐Ÿ“ฅ Print them today and make your schoolโ€™s therapy dog experience even better! ๐Ÿพโœจ ๐Ÿ“ Best wishes, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? The Moral of the Story: Income Inequality in Familiar Tales: An Integrated ELA and Social Studies Lesson

The Moral of the Story: Income Inequality in Familiar Tales: An Integrated ELA and Social Studies Lesson
Social Studies, Life Studies, ELA, Economics, Finance, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Literature, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

This lesson introduces middle school students to the basic ideas of capitalism and income inequality using familiar stories as reference points. Students will take notes on a handout and consider whether they think it's fair that the 26 richest people on earth have as much money as 3.8 billion other people. They will learn about the moral of Charles Dickensโ€™ A Christmas Carol: Dickens thinks Scrooge is too greedy and that he should share his wealth with others- especially his hard-working clerk, Bob Cratchit. Next, they discover the message in the popular fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk: one could argue the original author of this tale thinks Jack and his mom should not be living in poverty while the giant has piles of gold. Then, they choose a story or novel of their own that addresses these issues and untangle that authorโ€™s specific message. Finally, they complete a personal reflection of what they have learned and what they think about equality in society. There are no wrong answers here- some students may think changes should be made, while others may think our system is working well. This is a developmentally-appropriate way to start a discussion about social issues including income inequality, wealth hoarding, progressive taxation, basic income, human rights, and more. It is also a good way to review parts of a story: plot, characters, moral, and theme. Grades to Use With: This lesson is designed for students in the middle years (5-9) and can be used in a social studies or language arts class. Debit Cards and Credit Cards may look similar, but they are extremely different! When teaching financial literacy to your students, don't take the basics for granted! Do your kids understand the crucial difference between a credit card and a debit card? Maybe not yet! Here is a ready-to-go handout that highlights the differences between credit cards and debit cards. Important vocabulary is included: chequing account, savings account, overdraft, limit, minimum, and interest). How to Use: Two versions of this sheet are included: one with the pros and cons filled in and one with them left blank for students to do. I would project the completed version on an interactive whiteboard and give students the partially blank copy to complete. You could also let your students think of the pros and cons themselves. They might come up with a lot of great ideas! You could also look at different credit card websites to see common interest rates, annual fees, loyalty points, and rules and restrictions. Do a sample problem where someone buys an expensive item on a credit card and takes a long time to pay it off. See how much it will actually cost with all of the interest payments included. Grades: Because it uses very simple language, this lesson could work for students from grades 5-12 in regular classes or high school students in life skills or special education classes. It should be easily accessible for a wide-range of learners. If you like this financial literacy product, check out some others from my store!
