Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students practice mindful, controlled breathing (inhaling through the nose, exhaling through the mouth) while tracing a spiral shape with a finger.

Teaching tips

  • Print the cards on cardstock and laminate them for repeated use in a calming corner, as the product's own instructions suggest.

  • Introduce one or two shapes at a time for younger children before rotating through the full set of twelve.

  • Model the trace-and-breathe routine once as a class before placing the cards in an independent calm-down space.

Skills covered

  • Mindful breathing regulation — students coordinate a slow inhale/exhale with finger-tracing a spiral shape to practice self-calming.
