About this resource
Practice ordering integers with eight worksheets: four from smallest to largest and four in the reverse direction. Sets include negative numbers, positive numbers and zero.
The 12-page PDF contains eight student pages, two answer-key pages, a cover and terms. Use a worksheet for independent practice or discuss how students compare two negative values. A teacher-supplied number line can support the discussion.

Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Order a set of positive and negative integers from smallest to largest
Order a set of positive and negative integers from largest to smallest
Compare negative integers correctly, recognising that a number further from zero in the negative direction is smaller
Teaching tips
Assign the smallest-to-largest sheets before the largest-to-smallest sheets, since the file itself orders them that way
Use a number line alongside the first sheet or two to help students see why, for example, -68 is smaller than -12
Have students circle the most negative number in each set first as a starting anchor before ordering the rest
Since no answer key is included, have students swap and check a partner's ordering, or review select sets together as a class
Skills covered
Integer comparison — students order sets of three to five positive and negative integers correctly relative to one another.
Directional ordering — students practice both smallest-to-largest and largest-to-smallest sequencing on separate sheets.
Negative-number reasoning — students apply the rule that a larger-magnitude negative number represents a smaller value.
