International Day of Nowruz Word Search 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Grade

The International Day of Nowruz Word Search Worksheet Activity teaches elementary school children about Nowruz - the spring and new year celebration in many cultures. The word search includes words associated with spring, tradition and culture, renewal and celebration; helping students to understand cultural traditions and how new beginnings are represented in a fun and friendly way.

Students may choose either the color or black and white version of the word search. The black and white version allows students to color the picture once they have completed their word search, additional creativity and fun are added to this learning opportunity.

Objectives

To help build vocabulary, spelling, reading fluency, and concentration. Students develop an understanding of how to look for seasonal and cultural words in the word search.

Order, Structure and Process. Students look for nowruz vocabulary words through the man. Students can look for them horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Students will have a completed three-page worksheet, as well as a completed answer key after colouring the blank page. This is an independent learning activity and keeps students engaged in their own little world. The teacher will benefit from this, as it provides her/him with materials that can easily be assigned to students, along with a method of maintaining an independent activity. Ages Grades 2-5, Age appropriate Vocabulary. Implementation Format This activity can be used in a variety of ways, including: cultural studies, spring/summer unit, classroom celebrations and independent literacy. This would be great to have available for use by substitute teachers filling in for teachers who have taken time off. Answer Key There will be a student sheet that includes an Answer Key for the teacher. Procedures/Variations Students can complete the crossword independently, or with a partner. The teacher may use this to introduce classes to a conversation about culture and global celebrations. This activity may also be used as part of a spring celebration.
