Place Value Worksheets: Country Morning Work, Country Mini Project
About This Product
Here is a super easy, year-long morning work routine for your grade 4, 5, or 6 class. It easily integrates both world geography and place value math learning!
HOW TO USE:
1) Print the 5 pages of worksheets for each student every two-week period.
2) Each day, you will choose a specific country for your class to research. Choose the country yourself, ask for your students to provide their own suggestions, or play "WORLD"LE to select the new country each day. You can find "WORLD"LE by searching for it.
3) Project a website that has information about the country of the day on your interactive whiteboard. Search for "National Geographic" or "Kids World Travel Guide" for kid-friendly reading passages and fun facts.
4) Students will write down the country’s name and continent, draw the flag, record the population, and add a fun fact. Conversely they could also research this information themselves, if they each have access to a device.
5) Then, your students will complete five math tasks using the country of the day's population as their place value prompt.
These tasks include:
multiplying the country’s population by different amounts such as 2, 5, or 10
dividing the country's population in half
adding to or subtracting from the population
writing the population of the country in expanded form
rounding the population to a certain place value spot
6) Take time to review the day’s country together. Ask your students to practice reading the large numbers aloud.
7) After eight days, your students will be able to order the eight countries they have studied from the largest to the smallest population in standard form and using decimal millions.
8) Then, you can begin the routine again!
