Kite Word Scramble Activity Sheet
Teachers - here's a fun word scramble I made for your spring units! This 2-page PDF has 24 kite-related words that students in grades 2-5 can unscramble. You'll find basic terms like "wind" and "tail" along with some harder words like "dowel" and "bridle" to keep kids challenged.
I created this last year when my third graders were making kites in science class. They loved racing to see who could unscramble the most words before craft time. The words are printed in a clear font with plenty of space for writing answers.
You can use this when:
Teaching about wind/weather
Needing a quick indoor recess activity
Preparing for kite day events
Looking for a spelling warm-up
Page 1 has the scrambled words. Page 2 is the answer key - perfect when you need to check work quickly. Some kids like to work in pairs, while others prefer doing it alone during quiet time.
The words I included are things kids actually use when building kites: string, paper, tape, plus the special parts like crossbars and tails. My students always ask why we call it a "bridle" instead of just "strings" - it makes for a good vocabulary discussion!
Just print and go - no fancy prep needed. I print mine on bright colored paper when we're doing our kite unit to make it feel more festive.
Word examples:
sail (easy)
spar (medium)
template (challenge)
Format: PDF with 2 pages (activity + answers)
Tip: Have kids circle the hardest word they solved!
