Learn Initial Sounds B: Lesson 2 teaches the first letter Bb, and its related phonic sound through a PowerPoint lesson and 5 follow-up activity worksheets. All you need to teach the phonic letter B! Whether in school or at home, this series of phonic presentations can help you teach initial/beginning sounds effectively to all pupils, including those with special needs/dyslexia. This lesson is part of a synthetic, systematic phonics programme for all abilities including those suspected of being dyslexic. This lesson is in the first stage of the Reading Made Simple programme where we teach the initial, or beginning, sounds. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound is stressed throughout, while we learn to associate each letter with its sound. Each lesson can stand alone but the activities will presume knowledge of the previous letters in the alphabet as Reading Made Simple teaches the initial sounds in alphabetical order. Special features of the Learn Initial Sounds B: Lesson 2 The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. It can be used in multiple ways: As the child learns each sound, you can use the PowerPoint lesson to reinforce your own lesson It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after being taught the letter Bb in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Use in class Use at home by parents or for home education Suggested Method: Introduce each letter in turn to your pupil. Have a flashcard of the letter ready. Say the sound each letter represents to the child and ask him/her to repeat it three times. Explain that some words begin with this sound. Give an example. Either use the lesson as teacher training for yourself to see how to teach your child, or use it with the child. Choose suitable activities (matching the ability of your child) from the pak of worksheets. Notes are suggestions only - use language appropriate to your pupil and be sure to interact naturally. However, do make sure that you focus on the hearing of the sounds at the beginning of words as this is much overlooked in the quest to help children learn the initial sounds as quickly as possible. This Unit focuses on the Long U Sounds! Learning how to read can be the most challenging activity for students and for a teacher. Understanding that the combination of letters can make the same vowel sound requires lots of repetitive practice of reading and writing these words with these sounds. There are other phonics units that I sell that focuses on the Long A sound with a combination of different letters, the Long E sound with a combination of different letters, the Long I sound with a combination of different letters, and the Long O sound with a combination of different letters. Reading can be made easier with these phonic helps that repeatedly encourage students to practice these Long U sounds. Activities include reading comprehension and identifying the Long U in their reading, writing their answers to questions regarding the paragraph, identifying additional Long U words in sentences using a word bank, matching words with pictures, spinning a paperclip activity where students will write the word with the Long U sound, and lastly a fun wordsearch with variations of Long U words. These activities are for each long vowel words that are focused on the Long U sounds so there are plenty of opportunities for students to practice their comprehension reading skills and phonic sounds. Students will practice the following Long U Word sounds: U_E, EW, OO, UE, UI and OU. Teachers can use this resource in whole group, individually with students, students can practice with each other in centers, or these worksheets can be assigned as homework. Worksheets are also differentiated for each Long U sounds for all young learners which makes it perfect for all 1st - 2nd graders. A total of 38 pages full of reading and phonic activities. Along with reading and writing there are matching, cutting, and pasting activities. Word searches and spin and make a word activity are also a part of this packet which make learning to read these phonic sounds entertaining for young learners. Mo Willems is the author of the Pigeon book series. The books contain large amounts of vocabulary designed for k-2nd graders. However, the pictures are so simple and adorable, they can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I adore this series so much that i have collected all of them despite that my son is almost 20 years old. As a result, I created the first of what I hope to be a series of reading comprehension and guided reading activity packs to make learning more fun for early elementary students as well as special education students and those with special needs in the areas of speech and communication. The book, "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late," is required reading in order for students to complete all of the activities. It is available for purchase at Amazon and at Mo Willems own website. You can also find it at your local library to check out. Students will practice reading and learn about grammar, spelling, and increase vocabulary. This unit focuses only on the Long O sounds. Learning how to read can be the most challenging activity for students and for a teacher. Understanding that the combination of letters can make the same vowel sound requires lots of repetitive practice of reading and writing these words with these sounds. There are other phonics units that I sell that focuses on each of the long vowels with a combination of different letters. Reading can be made easier with these phonic helps that repeatedly encourage students to practice these Long O sounds. Activities include: - Reading comprehension and identifying the Long O in their reading - Writing their answers to questions regarding the paragraph - Identifying additional Long O words in sentences using a word bank - Matching words with pictures - Spinning a paperclip activity where students will write the word with the Long O sound - and lastly a fun wordsearch with variations of Long O words. These activities are for each long vowel words that are focused on the Long O sounds so there are plenty of opportunities for students to practice their comprehension reading skills and phonic sounds. Students will practice the following Long O Word sounds: O_E, OA, OW, OE, and OUGH. Teachers can use this resource in whole group, individually with students, students can practice with each other in centers, or these worksheets can be assigned as homework. Worksheets are also differentiated for each Long O sounds for all young learners which makes it perfect for all 1st - 2nd graders. A total of 31 pages full of reading and phonic activities. Along with reading and writing, there are matching, cutting, and pasting activities.
