Let's making learning Fry's sight words more interesting. This resources brings Fry's sight words into the digital age. Start off by introducing your students to these sight words by offering the PDF-based, Digital activity. Use the arrow keys to navigate through this resource after you opened it and displayed it on full screen. Students can even do this all by themselves. Then, test their sight word knowledge by opening up the digital fill in the blanks exercise. It works in the same way. Look at each question and press the right arrow key to reveal the answer. Do this for the entire quiz. Again, students can do this by themselves as well. If you would prefer to do this test on paper, no problem! There is a printable version as well, that comes with an answer key. Finally, there are two vocabulary lists, one in order of frequency and the other in alphabetical order. Let's do this!

Guided Reading is a research-based instruction process whereby the teacher works with small grouping of students being equal in a particular reading achievement level. The teacher provides for each reader's development of effective reading competencies. However different than in the earlier days of reading groups, small and temporary groups are flexible and dynamic. The observance and evaluation of the progress of readers are done by teachers on a systematic basis. Thus, grouping and regrouping students is based on the strengths of students and the intense changing needs throughout their reading development. In the 1960s in New Zealand, Guided Reading was developed. It was enhanced over the years after it arrived in the United States thanks to educators like Gay Su Pinnell and Lesley Fountas. In 1996, Fountas & Pinnell published their enormously influential book, Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children (Heinemann). This book changed how reading was taught, and it is still taught today to over a million teachers worldwide. The aim of Guided Reading lessons is to develop effective readers. A set of 13 books is bundled together with all 13 worksheets of the Guided Reading series for grades KG-12. There are lesson plans and different activities for every grade, with the answers in the end section of the worksheet.

Mo Willems is the author of the Pigeon book series. The books contain large amounts of vocabulary designed for k-2nd graders. However, the pictures are so simple and adorable, they can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I adore this series so much that i have collected all of them despite that my son is almost 20 years old. As a result, I created the first of what I hope to be a series of reading comprehension and guided reading activity packs to make learning more fun for early elementary students as well as special education students and those with special needs in the areas of speech and communication. The book, "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late," is required reading in order for students to complete all of the activities. It is available for purchase at Amazon and at Mo Willems own website. You can also find it at your local library to check out. Students will practice reading and learn about grammar, spelling, and increase vocabulary. This unit focuses only on the Long I sounds. Learning how to read can be the most challenging activity for students and for a teacher. Understanding that the combination of letters can make the same vowel sound requires lots of repetitive practice of reading and writing these words with these sounds. There are other phonics units that I sell that focuses on the Long A sound with a combination of different letters, the Long E sound with a combination of different letters, the Long O sound with a combination of different letters , and the Long U sound with a combination of different letters . Reading can be made easier with these phonic helps that repeatedly encourage students to practice these Long I sounds. Activities include reading comprehension and identifying the Long I in their reading, writing their answers to questions regarding the paragraph, identifying additional Long I words in sentences using a word bank, matching words with pictures, spinning a paperclip activity where students will write the word with the Long I sound, and lastly a fun wordsearch with variations of Long I words. These activities are for each long vowel words that are focused on the Long I sounds so there are plenty of opportunities for students to practice their comprehension reading skills and phonic sounds. Students will practice the following Long I Word sounds: I_E, IE, IGH, and Y Teachers can use this resource in whole group, individually with students, students can practice with each other in centers, or these worksheets can be assigned as homework. Worksheets are also differentiated for each Long I sounds for all young learners which makes it perfect for all 1st - 2nd graders. A total of 28 pages full of reading and phonic activities.
