Students are shown three unique and realistic graphs Each one presents information in a biased or misleading way. With step-by-step instructions, your students will be guided through the basics: 1) Carefully reading and interpreting each graph: the axes, the scales, the data that is included 2) Noticing any biases or manipulations that may be present 3) Determining what the author probably wanted to guide them to think when reading the initial graph On the second page for each situation, students are given extra information and tasked with re-creating the graph more fairly. Blank graphs (with scales and labels) are given to students; they will use the information provided in each table to create a new graph that displays the data in an accurate way. Reflection prompt questions are also included to stimulate discussion and students explaining their ideas in words. Through using this Growth and Development Health: 4th and 5th Grade Unit 2 students will explore and learn to identify daily healthy habits. This unit is the perfect way to help 4th and 5th grade students learn and develop healthy habits. In this unit, students will understand and explain the six major body systems including the cardiovascular system, the digestive system, muscular system, the respiratory system, the nervous and skeletal systems, along and more. Also included in this unit, students will compare their emotional, physical, and academic differences with other classmates as they do activities with each other to build friendships and classroom unity with each other. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to practice scenarios using different healthy methods. At the end of this unit, there is an assessment to check for understanding with answer keys included. This 24-page unit meets Common Core Standards and is filled with engaging activities that will help any student build a healthy foundation! Included in this 4th and 5th Grade Health Unit are the following: There are six major body systems that students will learn and be able to explain how they work and function together. The 6 major systems listed in this unit and include the following systems: Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Digestive, Skeletal, Nervous, and Muscular. Classes to Use With : This project can be used with your high school students in several classes Family & Consumer Sciences Financial Literacy Applied Math or Consumer Math Career & Personal Planning High School Life Skills (where appropriate) How to Use: Print a three-page car budget project that includes spreadsheets & reflection questions for each student. Teach a quick lesson about the 3 ways to pay for a car: saving up over time to buy it, securing a loan to buy it, or leasing it and not buying it. Let students work in pairs or small groups to research key facts for each of the 3 ways to pay for a car. For 3rd Grade Health there are seven standards that need to be taught. Unit 1 Personal Health Unit 2 Growth and Development Unit 3 Nutrition and Physical Activity Unit 4 Substance Use and Abuse Unit 5 Injury/ Violence Prevention Control and Safety Unit 6 Prevention/Control of Disease Unit 7 Environmental Consumer Health These units can be taught out of order. They are only numbered for your convenience. At the end of each unit, there is an assessment to test students’ understanding. In this unit, students will discuss and learn about healthy and unhealthy physical activities. They will discuss with the group what they think happens to their body when they are running, what causes our bodies to sweat and make our heartbeat faster and how long it takes for our bodies to recover. They will even perform some physical activities as a group and monitor what is happening to their bodies. Students will also read about healthy and unhealthy habits they do during the day. Such unhealthy habits they will read about include watching TV, playing video games, or laying around instead of doing physical activities such as skateboarding, swimming, and other activities that are good for our heart. There is a goal sheet included that will help students monitor how they can get more physical activity into their daily routines. After completing the goal sheet, they will compare it to other classmates and even improve on their physical goals that they want to accomplish. In the unit, there is a worksheet about making healthy eating habits. What foods kids should avoid like sugary sweets, greasy foods, chips and sodas. Student will discuss the consequences of eating unhealthy foods verses eating healthy options. Lastly, there is a worksheet on the importance of sleep. How much sleep kids need at their age and why it's important to go to bed on time each night. There are 13 pages included in all. In the end, there is an assignment to test for understanding. There are seven units that cover all the health requirements for 3rd grade. Through using this Environmental Consumer Health: 4th and 5th Grade Health Unit 7 students will explore and learn to identify daily healthy habits. This Environmental Consumer Health Unit 7, is full of engaging worksheets to help students learn about their environment in an educational way as it pertains to their own health and the health of others. In this SEL product, you will get SEL Flashcards for Social Emotional Learning. You will also get SEL coloring pages because there are two different pages of emotions/feelings. Both pages have a black and white version and a color version. The black and white version allows your students to color their own faces and images. The emotions listed are; happy, sad, silly, proud, shy confused, scared, excited, angry, tired, loving, sick, disgusted, cry, jealous, disappointed. These flashcards can be used for so many purposes. I have used these flashcards for Go Fish games where the students have to ask for a certain feeling. You will need to make two copies of the colored emotions poster to make this game work. If a student asks for "angry" and the student they asked has it, that student give the card to the one who asked and that student places the match down on the table and names a time they felt angry. I have also used this resource for memory games. You would, again, make two copies of each emotion. Then you would mix up the cards and place them face down (I would highly recommend cardstock) in a random order. Students then would choose two cards and reveal the emotion cards. If they are a match, then the student can share when they have felt that way. If it is not a match, they would place the cards face down again the the next student would take a turn. This is a fun and interactive game but also helps students discuss their feelings in a non-threatening way. This resource can be used as a whole class activity where students color their flashcards and then cut them out. They can randomly pick a card and name a time they felt that way. This can also be used as a center activity for Go Fish or Memory (as I described above). The ways to use these Emotion SEL Flashcards are endless!

High School Financial Literacy: Stock Market Project- Investing

This engaging and useful stock market project can teach your high school students all about several financial literacy topics: investing their savings, buying shares (stocks) in a company, calculating their gains and losses, investment volatility, calculating the mean, length of investment (time horizon) and more! How to Use: 1. On Day 1, have your students complete the first worksheet. They can use the included website to look at a variety of different stocks and their historical performances. They will divide up their thousand dollar investment between two different companies, and calculate how many shares the will be able to buy from each company they picked to invest in. 2. Then, schedule three separate classes over the next month or so to check on the stocks. Each time, your students will record that day's current share price and calculate their shares' current investment value. 3. On the final day, your students will calculate how much money they have gained or lost during the project. Then, each student will provide their gain or loss which will allow the calculation of your class's average stock performance during the project. [You can project the included table on a board and each student can fill in their gain or loss.] 4. Next, students will find out how the stock market performed on average during the timeframe of the project. They will utilize data from the S&P 500 to see if their class's average was better or worse than the stock market itself. 5. Finally, students will write a reflection about this project. A variety of prompts are included to help your students think about volatility, lower risk of ETFs, and the importance of thinking about how long one can invest their money. Sample calculations are provided for each step to help model for your students.
