Students will learn to take care of themselves as they learn about personal hygiene and the importance of how to stay clean with their bodies. They will learn about the importance of making and keeping goals and write three healthy goals and a way to accomplish these goals. Handwashing is another part of how to control disease. Students will review the importance of keeping their hands clean and how that will help them to stay healthy. For fun, there is a word search on dental hygiene included as they review these vocabulary words. Viruses can spread quickly in communities. In this unit, students will learn about the Coronavirus and measures on how to keep themselves and their family safe from spreadable diseases and viruses. Included is information on the Coronavirus for students to learn and then they will answer several questions as to its origin, how it started, how it spread, and what they can do to be safe for future viruses. Lastly, there is an assessment to check for understanding. This unit meets Common Core Standards. It is 30 pages of fun engaging activities! At the end of the unit, there is an assessment to check for understanding. There are seven units that cover all the health requirements for 3rd grade. These nutrients include: water, protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, and minerals. Students will learn the function of each of these nutrients and how they help our bodies as well. There is a matching activity to test their knowledge on each of these six basic nutrients. Students will also learn about how much of these nutrients we need to eat daily. Examples of what to eat and how much is provided in this unit that is similar to the food pyramid. Based on what they should eat, students will draw a healthy meal. There is also a lesson on physical activity and different physical activities they can do to stay healthy. This unit meets Common Core Standards. It is 11 pages of fun engaging activities! Print a 3-page budget project that includes a spreadsheet and reflection questions for each of your students. 2. Go over page one as a class. Students can share a variety of wedding sizes they have gone to personally. Discuss the wide range of wedding budgets people typically spend. 3. Give students time to pick their number of guests and their budget. Remind them they must figure out a way to pay for the budget they choose. 4. Give students one to two work periods to research real wedding items for each of the fourteen categories. They will need to have access to technology to do this. 5. Make sure students multiply items that are guest dependent and add up their wedding grand total carefully. Have them trade sheets with a friend to double check. 6. Go over the written reflection questions and then give students time to answer them. 7. This Guided Reading Book - Clean Hands, Healthy Bodies (Level H) includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. This 3-page lesson that includes student worksheets will help teach your high school students about all the different kinds of investments that they can purchase to grow their savings and net worth. Get teenagers interested in investing early to help improve their financial literacy! It’s an easy-to-use lesson for a finance, career and personal planning, family and consumer sciences, life skills, or applied math class. How to Use: 1. Students will learn the basic vocabulary (including rate of return and principal) and concepts (including risk versus reward and time horizon) surrounding investments. 2. Six different kinds of investments are introduced (savings accounts, GICs, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and Exchange Traded Funds). 3. For each, students will determine the basic pros and cons and research to find one or more current interest rates and/or rates of return. They can use the information on the worksheets and complete more research online. 4. Finally, students are asked to decide how they would invest a $1 million inheritance into 3 different kinds of investments. They will choose how much to put into each investment, and they will explain why they made their picks (based on when they might need to use the money and what they want to use it for).
