About this resource

This two-page Feelings Choice Board provides six feeling labels and fourteen coping options. Children choose three feelings and glue three strategy cards beside each one.

Discuss practical choices together, then cut and arrange the cards on the board. The supplied feelings are sad, mad, scared, worried, lonely and confused. To personalise a strategy, children can draw an alternative on separate paper.

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students will identify and name personal feelings from a bank of five emotion words.

  • Students will match each feeling to an appropriate coping strategy chosen from thirteen options.

  • Students will practice self-regulation by selecting and gluing three feeling-strategy pairs onto their own board.

Teaching tips

  • Pre-cut the feeling and strategy word banks for younger students who may struggle with the small text.

  • Model one example pairing (e.g., 'If I'm mad, I can take a break') before students choose their own three.

  • Revisit the completed board with students during a calm moment so the strategies feel familiar before an actual emotional moment arises.

Skills covered

  • Emotion identification — students choose 3 of 5 named feelings (sad, mad, scared, worried, lonely) to place on their board.

  • Coping-strategy selection — students match each chosen feeling to one of 13 printed strategies such as 'do a belly breath' or 'ask for help.'

  • Cut-and-paste fine-motor practice — students cut out feeling and strategy squares and glue them into the board's grid.
