Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students will articulate their own idea on a topic in writing before sharing it with peers.

  • Students will collect and record four peers' ideas on the same topic by moving around the classroom and exchanging responses.

Teaching tips

  • Have students fill in their own idea first, then circulate to trade ideas with classmates, recording each new idea in one of the four "___'s idea" boxes.

  • Set a topic together as a class before distributing the template, since the topic line is left blank for the teacher or student to fill in.

  • Since the template has exactly four peer-idea boxes, structure the room so each student can realistically reach four different classmates in the time available.

Skills covered

  • Idea articulation — writing a personal response to a topic before sharing it.

  • Peer collaboration — moving through the classroom to exchange and record ideas with four different classmates.

  • Note-taking under structure — recording each peer's idea in its own labelled box on the template.
