Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Trace a target lowercase letter with correct manuscript formation.

  • Combine previously learned letters into short traced sequences.

Teaching tips

  • Assign one or two letter pages per handwriting session rather than the full 92-page packet at once, since the sequence builds letter by letter.

  • Have students say the letter name or sound aloud as they trace it, since the pages provide no verbal cues themselves.

  • Use the combination pages (e.g., 'ot,' 'il') as a quick check that a student has retained the individually-practised letters before moving to the next new letter.

Skills covered

  • Manuscript letter formation -- students trace individual lowercase letters (e.g., l, i, t, o) multiple times per page to build fine-motor letter formation.

  • Multi-letter tracing combination -- once several letters are introduced, students trace short letter combinations (e.g., 'ot,' 'il,' 'oll') that reuse only previously practised letters.
