Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Form plural nouns using the appropriate spelling pattern or irregular form.
  • Identify singular forms from the supplied plurals.
  • Correct noun-number errors in sentences.

Teaching tips

  • Assign the two conversion lists (singular-to-plural and plural-to-singular) before the multiple-choice section, since several of the same irregular nouns (mouse, child, wolf) reappear across all three.
  • Use the sentence-correction section as a quick error-spotting warm-up, since each of the seven sentences contains exactly one incorrect noun form to identify and fix.
  • Have pupils complete the sorting task last, since its 22-word list draws directly from nouns already practised in the earlier sections.

Skills covered

  • Plural spelling — apply patterns such as consonant-y to -ies and selected f to -ves forms.
  • Irregular-form recall — recognise pairs such as mouse/mice and child/children.
  • Error correction — revise the noun form that does not fit its sentence.
