Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students will research and record factual information about Mexico (population, capital, currency, national dish, bordering countries).

  • Students will complete the same research task using either English or Spanish vocabulary labels.

  • Students will present researched findings about Mexico to the class.

  • Students will identify alebrijes as a Mexican folk-art tradition after reading the closing page.

Teaching tips

  • Because the video link is an external YouTube URL rather than an embedded file, check that it still resolves before assigning the activity, and have a backup source ready.

  • Assign the Spanish-labelled and English-labelled fact-sheet pages to different students or partners so vocabulary practice pairs naturally with a compare-your-answers discussion.

  • Save the alebrije colouring page for early finishers or as a take-home extra-credit piece, since the instructions already frame it as optional.

Skills covered

  • Research and information recording — students look up and record facts about Mexico's geography, government and culture across eight fact-sheet fields.

  • Bilingual vocabulary matching — the same fact-sheet fields appear in both Spanish (Países Fronterizos, La Bandera) and English (Bordering Countries, Flag), reinforcing vocabulary pairs.

  • Oral presentation — students share their completed fact sheet with the class.

  • Cultural literacy — the closing page introduces alebrijes as a modern Mexican folk-art form ahead of a related colouring activity.
