Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Determine an unknown factor or product when one number in a multiplication equation is missing.
Recall multiplication facts across the 0 through 12 times tables.
Identify whether the missing value in an equation is a factor or a product before solving.
Teaching tips
Work through the tables in the order they're presented, since the set moves sequentially from the 0s table to the 12s table.
Use the name line at the top of each sheet to assign one worksheet per student rather than sharing a single copy.
Have students name whether the blank is a factor or the product before they solve, since its position changes from equation to equation.
Skills covered
Multiplication fact recall — students solve equations such as 7 x ___ = 42 across the 0 through 12 tables.
Missing-factor problem solving — the blank falls in different positions (either factor or the product), so students work backward from the known values.
Sequential numeric practice — completing one table per page in order from 0 through 12 reinforces the multiplication sequence.
Good to know
Questions teachers ask about this resource
Where does the missing number appear in each equation?
It moves around the page — some problems leave out the first factor, some the second factor, and some the product, so all ten problems on a worksheet aren't solved the same way.
