About this resource
This is a Beginning Sounds Printable that will be most useful for your preschool and kindergarten students.
There are 3 pages included in this printable worksheet.
Each page has a chart with 4 rows. Each row consists of 2 pictures and 2 letters.
In each row, students will say the name of the pictures and read each letter. Students will circle the letter that makes the same beginning sound as the picture’s name.
This is a great activity for literacy centres. If your students are in small groups during centre time, they will be able to discuss the pictures together and decide what beginning sound they make.
This activity is also great for small group with the teacher. You will be able to assess student mastery on a variety of different skills.
For starters, you will be able to analyze student’s current background knowledge. Their ability to properly name the 2 pictures in each row will give you a better understanding of things they have been exposed to. Understanding background knowledge is critical when it comes to reading and understanding stories.
You will also be able to assess their ability to correctly identify letters. For example, you can ensure that students are mixing up the letters b and d.
Finally, you will be able to assess the purpose of this worksheet – beginning sounds. If students can identify the pictures and identify the letters, can they also correctly identify the letter that makes that sound?
