Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Students look up the correct conjugated form of a regular or irregular French verb for a given pronoun and tense.
Students compare the regular -er, -ir and -re conjugation patterns against reflexive and irregular verb patterns side by side.
Teaching tips
Introduce the three regular tables and the reflexive table (page 1) first to establish the base conjugation pattern before assigning the irregular-verb tables on pages 2-5.
Focus study on one tense column at a time across several verbs, since every table already lines up all four tenses for direct comparison.
Group the irregular verbs by shared stem behaviour (e.g. venir/sortir/partir all use être in the perfect tense) rather than working through the list in table order.
Skills covered
French verb conjugation — students identify the correct form of 23 irregular and 4 regular/reflexive verb patterns across four tenses.
Tense recognition — students distinguish present, perfect (passé composé), imperfect and future forms for the same verb.
Regular vs. irregular pattern comparison — students compare predictable -er/-ir/-re endings against irregular stems such as être, avoir and aller.
