Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Complete a sentence describing what a person can and cannot do at a given life stage.

  • Use a contrast word (but, however, or although) correctly within a written sentence.

  • Write a short personal reflection connecting a life-stages vocabulary concept to one's own life.

Teaching tips

  • Introduce the four life-stage words—baby, toddler, child, adult—before students open the worksheet, since the fill-in blanks assume the vocabulary is already familiar.

  • Point out that but, however, and although each signal the same kind of contrast so students notice the sentences follow one pattern even though the connecting word changes.

  • Have students complete page one as a group discussion first, then move to page two's independent reflective writing.

Skills covered

  • Sentence completion — students supply the missing verb phrase in four contrast sentences about life-stage abilities.

  • Contrast-word usage — but, however, and although are each practiced within a sentence frame across the four items.

  • Reflective writing — students write multiple sentences on page two about their current stage of childhood and their expectations for adulthood.
