About this resource

Connect simple telling sentences with their meanings through a picture match. Students read four sentences and choose the illustration that shows each event. Draw attention to the period at the end of a statement, then ask students to explain which part of the picture supports their match.

Curriculum reference — Ontario: Matching an illustration with text directly supports Ontario Grade 1 visual-text comprehension; preserve the resource’s printed period terminology in Canada. Selected skills only; reference stage is not an overall reading age, complete curriculum coverage, or an automatic recommendation for every learner.
