Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students will express a music preference between two paired options by dragging a checkmark to their choice. Students will compare contrasting musical eras and genres (jazz vocalists versus contemporary pop artists) and instrument timbres (brass versus string, percussion versus woodwind).

Teaching tips

  • Play the referenced tracks aloud where possible so choices are grounded in listening rather than name recognition alone. Demonstrate the drag-and-drop mechanic on the practice checkmark on slide 1 before students work independently. Works well as a music-class warm-up or transition activity between lessons.

Skills covered

  • Music preference articulation — choosing between two contrasting musical options per slide using a drag-and-drop checkmark

  • Comparative listening — pairs contrast musical era/genre (jazz standards vs. contemporary pop) and instrument family (brass/string, percussion/woodwind)

  • Digital interaction — dragging and dropping an object within a PowerPoint slide
