Allowing students to practice the sight word in context gives students the ability to connect the sight word's meaning and grammatical usage to help gain a greater understanding of the target word. Each passage repeats the target word multiple times for extra practice with the word. Students will practice reading, writing, reading comprehension, and spelling high frequency words with these fluency pages. Included in this sight word fluency packet: * One reading fluency page that contains a single passage for students to read and find the sight word. * One write and read fluency page where students will write the target sight word and then read the passage. * One read, write, and draw fluency page where students will read a sentence, copy the sentence then draw a picture to illustrate the sentence. Reading and Blending Segmenting Mats

Students will have a blast blending and reading one syllable words with these phonics mats. These phonics mats are easy to differentiate for students learning different phonics skills. By using the cards and sounds that students have already mastered or are currently practicing to build, blend, and read each word. There are recording sheets for students to write the words they create. What is Included: There are 4 letter sound cards for beginning sounds, ending sounds, blends, digraphs, vowel teams and diphthong Phonics playdough mats for 2, 3, and 4 sound words. Phonics road mats for 2, 3, and 4 sound words. Recording sheets for recording real and nonsense words Recording sheet for students to write the word, draw a picture of the word, and then to write a sentence with the word. How to Use: Print each set of sound cards on different colored card stock. Make all the beginning sounds one color, all the vowels another color, and all the ending sounds a third color. Put each stack of phonics cards face up in the middle of the phonic mats in the right order. Have the student blend and read the word made by the cards. The student will then remove one of the letter cards to create a new word. The students can then record the words on one of the recording sheets. This step is optional. Where to Use: Literacy Center - These mats make the perfect literacy center . By placing the mats and the cards in a center students can practice reading words independently or together. Small Group Activities - These mats are great small group tools for a teacher to use with students needing more help or extra practice with reading and blending single syllable words. The phonics mats cards do need to be printed and cut apart, but the mats, themselves, are no-prep.

This Guided Reading Book - Manchester (Level N) with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Following Directions SEL Activity

In this SEL product, you will get 3 handouts. One is the directions you will give to students with prompts for them to follow your directions. There are 6 prompts; cut out the 4 pictures, glue the bird on top of the tree, glue the ball on the left side of the tree, glue the puppy to the right of the tree, and glue the sun on the top right corner of the page. Then students are instructed to color the picture. There is a picture of the final scene if the students follow the directions. The 2nd one is the handout for the students to cut out images and glue them onto the handout. There are 4 images to cut out; a ball, a bird, a puppy, and a sun. They will glue around a tree. The 3rd is a fun mindfulness coloring sheet with owls (they are wise to follow directions) with the title "I'm A 1st Time Listener!" This is a great lesson for helping students put into practice after learning the tips for following directions and paying attention in school. You first can go over the key tips such as 1) Look at the speaker, 2) Listen to the directions, 3) Say O.K. (acknowledge the task), and then 4) Do the activity or task. Following directions is a great skill to model and practice. It is important to not assume students know this skill-especially after the pandemic. In my own work as a school counselor, I have noticed students have difficulty with even the most simple directions. Hopefully, this activity will help your students as well.
