READ BELOW! Do your students come in from recess/specials/an assembly/any activity out of the norm all sorts of hyped out and out of control? This is the PERFECT activity to get them to calm-down and transition productively! With TONS of different designs to choose from- each student can pick out a picture that speaks to them! You can laminate each student's page or place them in a protective sheet so that they can stay nicely in their desks. Display the directions on the board or have them printed-out on large poster paper. Teaching the "Trace and Breathe" skill is essential to providing your students a structured way to practice mindfulness, control their heart rate and breathing, and transition from a high to a low-energy activity. The Trace and Breathe series can also be used as an essential piece to a calming corner in your classroom! Create a comfortable, calm space where your students can go when they need to cool down. Teach expectations around when it is appropriate for students to use this corner in the beginning of the year. Then, create a binder with lots of different designs the students can choose from. The Google Slideshow, 14 Random Writing Prompts : Character, Situation, Prop, Setting, and Phrase provides students with interesting and fun prompts for unique short stories and flash fiction. The prompts include ideas for writing realistic fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and mystery. stories Each prompt is structured with a character idea, a situation, a prop, a setting, and a phrase that they can seamlessly incorporate into their narratives and are designed to foster the development of compelling characters, gripping conflicts, vivid settings, and evocative moods. The prompts can be used in any order and can be customized to cater to the diverse needs of your students, whether they are Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)-identified, have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), are second-language learners, or fall into the general education category. Each time we write, I share 3-4 slides . Sometimes students will choose to mix and match different elements from different slides to write a story.Over the course of 25-30 minutes, they write to one or two of the slides of their choice. The next time we write, I include the original 3-4 and I add 1 or 2 more slides . Eventually, they will see the whole slideshow. If my students aren’t inspired by the prompts, they can write whatever they feel like writing, work on a previous prompt to develop it, or work on something else they’ve been writing.Every few days, instead of writing, students break into small groups and choose one of their stories to share with their group members for feedback. Over time, your students will have one or more completed short stories or flash fiction pieces. This AG Word Family Sorting Activity is a great resource for your students to practice recognizing AG words and pictures in isolation. This sorting activity includes three different sorts for students to categorize AG family words in an engaging literacy center. Sorts Included in this Literacy Resource Sort words that are included in the AG family from words that are not included in the AG family. Sort pictures that represents words in the AG family from pictures that represent words not in the AG family. Sort between real and nonsense AG words. The teacher can easily differentiate these sorting activities for students who need more or less support to be successful in completing these sorts. How to Use: The teacher can create a file folder sorting activity The teacher can add magnets to the picture pieces and create a cookie tray sorting activity The teacher can place the cards and mats in a box for a simple sorting activity To assemble file folder activities, position the two sorting mats on each side of a file folder. Use the word and image cards for sorting onto the mats. Adding hook and loop fasteners to both the cards and mats ensures the cards remain positioned once sorted. For the cookie tray sorting, attach magnets to each card's back. Lay the mats next to each other on the tray, and the magnets will secure the cards to the mats.
