The concept of nonfiction can be very abstract, making it difficult to teach the concept. These worksheets look at the nonfiction text feature; glossary. Within these worksheets is three activities that are designed to help students understand the concept of a glossary as well as to be able to create their own glossary. This download includes a printable worksheets with three activities, printable checklist with a checklist for individual students and for the class and finally a answer sheet with answers to the activities. The objectives of these worksheets is to deepen the understanding of exactly what a glossary is and how to create one. The first activity helps students to break down a word and describe a particular word like you would in a glossary, the second activity asks students to identify words within a passage and describe them and the final activity lists three words for students to describe with a sentence. There is a checklist for teachers to capture the data from the worksheets. These activities are great for grade 1,2 and 3 and can be used as an introduction, recap, support or enrichment. Here is a great addition to your science curriculum . When teaching your grade 2 or grade 3 learners about animal adaptations and habitats, use these worksheets to enhance your lessons. They are cross-curricular to include reading, writing, science, and critical thinking. Your learners will enjoy reading about 8 animals in the Savanna habitat and their unique adaptations that allow them to live there. Reading passages for the armadillo, hyena, ostrich, rhinoceros, crocodile, zebra, lion, and meercat are included. Then, they’ll use one of three differentiated worksheets to list specific adaptations for the animals. As a way to prepare for the writing activity, learners can also complete the activity of not only listing adaptations for Savanna animals, but three animals that live in other habitats. Reading passages for the Snowy Owl, moose, and newt are included to aid your learners in this activity. Finally, learners will compare and contrast a Savanna animal and a non-Savanna animal in a brief writing activity. Once the activity is complete, they’ll have the opportunity to showcase their creativity by illustrating their writing. These print and go worksheets are the perfect way to round out your lessons on animal adaptations and/or the Savanna habitat. Not only that, but your learners also have the opportunity to work on one assignment that helps build skills in a variety of learning domains. All worksheets are available in a color version, as well as a black & white version. Both versions are identical. An answer key is not provided because answers will vary with each learner.
