Olá! My name is Christine. I'm an online language teacher and teacher author. I create interactive, engaging lessons and fun, play-based bilingual resources in Portuguese and English. I'm Portuguese American and I've lived, worked and studied alternatively between Portugal and the States my entire life! I moved to Portugal in the 80's, and as a tween raised in the States, it seemed all so bizarre. As most Portuguese American, born in the States, I had been exposed to the language, definitely understanding it but, apart from a list of isolated words, I never practiced speaking it. I had no other choice than to try to communicate once in Portugal and it took me the entire year to find my grounding, become fluent in Portuguese and fall in love with Portugal! Now, many years later, I understand the late American journalist, Flora Lewis, who said, “Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.” Learning and maintaining fluency in a language takes exposure, time and practice; I create my lessons and resources to help attain more of that in a fun and natural way!
