How To Implement This Resource:
This is a 1-page reading passage that is best used at the start of an anthropology unit. It will answer the question What is anthropology? Students will learn that anthropology is the study of human beings and their cultures, from prehistoric times to today and that the people who practice anthropology are called anthropologists. This passage will explain that there are two main divisions within anthropology – physical and cultural. Students will be able to learn the difference in these two divisions and what these different anthropologists do.
This Anthropology Reading Passage can be read multiple times to ensure students have a great understanding of the topic. You can read it together as a whole group and have students read it together with a partner and then independently. If you want to assess general understanding, you can spend a bit of time having whole group or small group discussions regarding the passage.
