Colouring is not just an art, or even fun activity, though it can be both of these, but it is also a valuable mode of learning. Much can be absorbed about the period being studied as the child colours. Facts and figures can be taught but little may be learned if the child is not engaged in the subject. Colouring helps to engage a pupil as it is relaxing.
Variations: You can create a model Saxon army, village, or river scene - or all three combined to make a Saxon settlement, if you print them onto thin card, carefully cut around the edges of each, and then construct a stand to attach on the back of each!
