Essay Research Guide: Significant Abolitionists is a scaffolded research project to guide students through selecting an abolitionist, gathering facts, outlining, writing, peer reviewing and finalizing a five-paragraph research essay. Students start by selecting an abolitionist and taking notes using the included two-page handout. Next, they use their notes to complete the essay outline. From there, students draft their essay, peer review with the checklist, and submit a final draft. The project concludes with teacher assessment using the provided standards-based rubric.
