Letter E Beginning Sound Sort - Easter Themed

This beginning sound sort for the letter E is a great hands on activity for recognizing the most common sound of the letter E. This is an easy and fun activity to give students who need practice with recognizing the letter E sound from amongst other letter sounds or for those students who need extra practice distinguishing between the initial sounds in words. To complete this sorting activity , students will look at a picture on an Easter egg to determine if the picture begins with the letter E or does not begin with the letter E, and then the students will place the egg on the correct basket mat. This sorting activity includes 3 pages that contains One basket mat for pictures that begin with the letter E One basket mat for pictures that do not begin with the letter E Easter egg pictures that begin with E Easter egg pictures that do not begin with E This beginning sound sort can be used in the following ways Literacy centers Fine motor centers File folder activity Add magnets to the picture cards for a baking tray activity Small group activities Morning work Emergency sub plans If making a file folder game, the teacher will place the mats on either side of the folder and use hook and loop fasteners to sort the egg pictures. Skills assessed with these letter E initial sound sort Initial Sound of the letter E Distinguishing between words that begin with E and do not begin with E Ability to sort the picture cards on to the correct mat This beginning sounds sorting activity is a low prep activity . All a teacher needs to do is to print the three pages, cut out the picture cards and laminate the pages and cards if desired. The activity is easy to set up and to put away and store. I still remember the morning my daughter pushed back from our kitchen table, looked at me with genuine surprise, and said, "Mom, I actually have an idea for this one." It was our third week of starting each school day with a simple writing warm-up, and something had finally clicked. As a homeschool parent, I had been searching for that magic formula to help my reluctant writer find her voice, and honestly, I had almost given up on these short daily exercises. But watching her evolve from someone who stared at blank pages to a confident high schooler who can craft compelling arguments and vivid narratives – well, it reminded me that sometimes the most powerful learning happens in those unassuming 10-minute moments before we dive into our "real" lessons. Because she is heading into her first year of high school, she gave me the idea to create these writing prompts for High School ELA . Mo Willems is the author of the Pigeon book series. The books contain large amounts of vocabulary designed for k-2nd graders. However, the pictures are so simple and adorable, they can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I adore this series so much that i have collected all of them despite that my son is almost 20 years old. As a result, I created the first of what I hope to be a series of reading comprehension and guided reading activity packs to make learning more fun for early elementary students as well as special education students and those with special needs in the areas of speech and communication. The book, "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late," is required reading in order for students to complete all of the activities. It is available for purchase at Amazon and at Mo Willems own website. You can also find it at your local library to check out. Students will practice reading and learn about grammar, spelling, and increase vocabulary. Activities include: Open-ended questions, writing prompts, based on the text in the book. Sight word recognition activities 32 Spelling Words 32 Vocabulary Words Alphabetization Fill-in-the-Blank Drawing And More Students will be given the opportunity to search for: 14 CVC words found in the book 14 nouns found in the book 18 sight words found in the book Great for: Reading Centers Literature Centers Guided Reading Read aloud activities Practicing Social and Emotional Skills Pigeon books are written so that the reader is directly being spoken to by the Pigeon. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts.
