Memory Snow Globes-- Holiday Activity for Grief and Loss w/ Elementary Students
About This Product
Memory Snow Globes--Holiday Activity for Grief and Loss with Elementary Students
This is an engaging and thoughtful teaching resource, created to aid elementary students in their processing of grief and loss during the holiday season. Known as Memory Snow Globes, this activity combines typical holiday themes with opportunities for reflection on cherished memories of loved ones.
It has been crafted to offer students a tool for processing their emotions while also providing an avenue towards closure. Students are given the autonomy to illustrate or write about their memories within each snow globe and label them accordingly.
If used in a Group Setting:
- Students can be asked to share the personal meanings behind each snow globe with others should they feel comfortable doing so.
- Respecting those who choose not to share remains paramount throughout this process.
Grief and loss aren't strictly relegated to experiences where someone has passed away. These scenarios can be applied widely which can include foster care situations, post-adoption adjustments, family relocations, parental divorce scenarios among others.
Note:
This teaching resource aims at helping students identify, confront and articulate feelings connected with loss while acknowledging that certain learners may need more guidance than others along the way. Possible Implementations:
- Individual sessions aimed at giving personal attention;
- Grief & Loss groups assembled specifically around shared experiences;
- The tasks can also be implemented at home by providing handouts for parents.
