Nature's Math: Numbers in the Natural World

We're going to help kids stop just looking at nature and start measuring it, mapping it, and graphing it. They'll use their own two hands to measure distances, learn how to track data with a thermometer to create a colorful "data wheel," and even apply geometry skills to design and build a life-size habitat maze.

It's the fun, simple way to help girls earn the Brownie Numbers in Nature badge requirements, all while proving that math is literally everywhere—from a tiny flower petal to the rings inside a tree!

What's Inside:

• The Temperature Detective: Grab a thermometer and use your senses to measure temperatures. Then, turn your discoveries into a gorgeous, colorful data wheel you can show off.

• Nature's Ruler: Explore measurement using things you find outside and even your own body. We'll play a game to build the longest line and show you how to use your handprint to measure objects.

• Create Your Own Data Art: Transform the data you collect in nature into a visual masterpiece by making stunning graphs and charts out of leaves, twigs, and pebbles.

• Map a Magical Habitat Maze: You'll use your math skills to design a unique home and maze for a mythical creature, planning out every area it needs to be happy.

• Build a Life-Size Habitat Maze: You'll put your math into action by planning and designing a hands-on, life-size maze while practicing real-world concepts like area, perimeter, and spacing.
