What's inside this resource
Grade 6–7 students order integers by where they sit on a number line, not by the size of their digits. A tip box at the top of page 1 reminds them that values get greater moving right and works one example: −7, 4 and −15 ordered least to greatest.
The ten tasks are grouped into five parts. Students read four marked points on a number line from −12 to 12, then add two more integers and reorder all six. Four sets follow, two ordered least to greatest and two greatest to least, including a set of three-digit negatives such as −104 and −114. Part 3 asks students to fix a classmate's list and explain the mistake. Part 4 uses a weather board of four morning temperatures in degrees Celsius, first as given and then after one reading changes. The worksheet closes with a task where students build their own set of four integers from −20 to 20 and order it.
