About This Product

President’s Day is a Level C reader written for students in primary grades. There is a picture of Mount Rushmore on the first page of the text which is a great lead into the story since Washington and Lincoln are carved in the statue and the leveled reader features these two presidents. The concepts taught in the story and a list of vocabulary words are listed at the top of the text to guide instruction.

The text is a simple one-page story that talks about two famous U.S. presidents: George Washington, the 1st president, and Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president. In easy-to-understand language, the story gives background information of the importance of these two men and brings meaning to President’s Day, a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February to honor the past presidents and the current president serving the people of the U.S.

This leveled reader can be used to introduce the special day and provide background information to your students. Ideal to be read individually or as a group, students are sure to think more about the contributions and roles of presidents in America.

There is a one-page activity sheet for students to practice writing the targeted vocabulary words and to draw/color the U.S. flag.
