About This Product

So many times easy readers that are sight word dependent can be difficult to use to support thinking and comprehension!

These stories are a bit different as they are written specifically to encourage and support reading comprehension strategies.

Sight Word Stories to Encourage Thinking Skills includes 15 short stories to use during Guided Reading.

Each story uses repetitive words and includes pictures to support decoding as well as “Questions to Ask” to support comprehension. The questions specifically focus on making predictions and inferences as well as other comprehension strategies.

They have been used in Special Education classes with kindergarteners and first graders.

They were created with these children in mind due to comprehension difficulties.

As you know, many children are word readers and have difficulty comprehending text.

Sometimes you need to use easier text and focus on comprehending even though a child may be capable of reading higher leveled stories.

With that in mind, these stories, although easy to read, challenged the students with the comprehension conversations we had about the stories and as a result, the students were guided to a better understanding of what they read.
