Studying the solar system is a wonderfully engaging topic for all students of all ages. One phenomenon to look closer at is the Solar Eclipse. They can be viewed from various places on Earth with the proper precautions.

Use this resource to teach students about:

This resource can be adapted and used for students of all ages. There are a lot of hands on learning included with minimal material required. If you do not have the required material (yard stick, Styrofoam balls and flashlight) it is totally fine! You can improvise OR completely omit.

Through these activities, students will be able to visualize the eclipse and understand the positioning of the sun, moon and Earth when a solar eclipse occurs.

Students can read through the Folklore that describes what Ancient civilizations thought was going on when a solar eclipse occurred so they can really dive into the history of solar eclipses.

Pictures and videos are also included to help students visualize what is happening millions of miles away in our sky.

Full teacher directions and answer keys are included.
