Teaching tally marks can be a fun, but complicated task! Students either catch on quickly or feel the frustration of not quite understanding this new skill. Students need plenty of practice with figuring how to show the value of a number correctly using tally marks. Additionally, you want students to be able to view tally marks and quickly count the total.
If you are looking for practice with tally marks, this Using A Tally Chart will help! This is an 8-page printable. There are 4 pages of problems for students to complete. The last 4 pages are answer keys.
The worksheets are as follows:
Page 1 – Write the value of each tally (10 problems)
Page 2 – Draw a tally for each number (12 problems)
Page 3 – Increase or decrease each number by the amount shown then draw the tally (8 problems)
Page 4 – Complete both charts by writing in the missing number or drawing in the missing tally (8 problems)
A sample problem is completed on each page.
This can be implemented for homework, independent work, or even an assessment.
This can be used with 2nd and 3rd grade students.
