Winter Games Order of Operations PEMDAS Pixel Art

Rejuvenate your order of operations practice for 5th grade this winter with a digital pixel art resource! This order of operations (with parentheses) resource gives students practice with a vital skill in a fun, not-so-mundane way! For each correct answer, part of a Winter Games image is revealed. There are 20 questions that ask students to use order of operations to solve a problem. There are only positive integers used. Parentheses are included, however there are no exponents just yet. If the answer is correct, part of a Winter Games pixel art image is revealed. If the answer is incorrect, the image does not reveal and students should check their work. This is a self-checking activity, giving students instant feedback without adding to your grading pile!

As an extension, there are ice hockey fun facts that are revealed as students finish the image. These are short and give kids something extra to be excited about, since they are related to one of the events of the Winter Games.

This resource is no prep! The digital pixel art activity is ready to assign and works well for independent practice, a review day, or a technology center. A printable worksheet version is included, so you could easily assign the same questions as homework or use them for a small group of students who do not have computer access. You will also receive all of the problems in task card form, which work well for a math center, partner work, or math rotations. An answer key is included
