About this resource
This three-page BTS resource supports intermediate and advanced ESL learners with an informational passage and 23 questions, including two vocabulary tasks and four true-or-false items requiring text evidence.
Three extended prompts offer an opinion essay, a comparison with another music group, or an imagined diary entry about spending a day with BTS. The opinion prompt includes an option for students who are not fans. Supply extra writing paper.

Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Extract factual details from an informational text, such as BTS's formation year and original musical genre.
Evaluate a claim against textual evidence, choosing true or false and justifying the answer from the passage.
Define a verb in context and generate synonyms for a target word using the passage's vocabulary.
Compose an extended opinion, comparison, or narrative essay that draws on and extends ideas from the reading.
Teaching tips
Assign the four true/false items as a class discussion rather than independent seatwork, since each requires students to argue their answer from specific textual evidence.
Use the synonym and "stand out" vocabulary items as a warm-up before the comprehension questions, since both concepts recur throughout the passage.
Let students choose one of the three writing prompts rather than assigning all three, since each targets a different mode -- opinion, comparative, and narrative.
Skills covered
Informational reading comprehension -- students answer detail and inference questions about BTS's history, music, and global influence.
Text-based argumentation -- students evaluate true/false claims and justify their answer using evidence from the passage.
Vocabulary in context -- students define "to stand out" and generate synonyms for "genuine" based on how the passage uses them.
Extended writing -- students produce an opinion essay, a comparative essay, or a narrative diary entry connected to the reading.

Questions teachers ask about this resource
How do the three writing prompts differ from each other?
Each targets a different mode: prompt one is a persuasive opinion essay about BTS's music, prompt two is a comparison essay contrasting another genuine music group with BTS, and prompt three is an imaginative diary entry about spending a day with the band.
What kind of evidence do the true/false questions expect?
Each of the four true/false items asks students to argue their answer directly from the reading passage rather than from outside knowledge, including one about whether "Dynamite" was BTS's first Korean-language U.S. number-one hit.
