About this resource

Explore words that share the spelling ear but do not all sound the same. Students choose from an eight-word bank to complete eight sentences, using meaning to guide their selections. Reading the finished sentences aloud gives an opportunity to compare the different pronunciations of the same letter pattern.

Curriculum reference — Ontario: The spelling appears in words with different pronunciations; no single-sound claim. Selected skills only; reference stage is not an overall reading age, complete curriculum coverage, or an automatic recommendation for every learner.
