This is a pack of phonic word family lists for the most common digraphs and trigraphs, Those included are: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, nd/nt ending, nk endings, th, ng, ing, ar, or, a-e, i-e, o-e, u-e, ai, ea, oa, high, it, ay, ou, aw, oi, ur, al, er, y ending both ee and eye, ea saying/e/, ow as in cow, a saying /ar/, long vowels with no 'e', ow saying oe, ew, oy and rules concerning 'wa' words. Each list contains no more than 10/11 words. This is deliberate, as it helps those with any special need, and those without progress more securely. How to study the words on each list: Each list is studied for one week and the child can become very familiar with these words, so gaining reading and spelling fluency. The child should be encouraged to first learn to recognise and see the new sound in words, then to see it in text, and then to use it to spell and read words. Finally. the child should be encouraged to remember the words on each list, as this will help with learning which combination of letters is needed to spell each word (e.g. is it 'a-e or ai?) The word lists can be used by anyone, however, they have been written to form the basis of teaching the Reading Made Simple lessons. Reading Made Simple is a 100% FREE programme that can teach children to both read and write, especially those with a special need, including dyslexia. This ck phonic decodable reading book is the next in our series of systematic phonics reading books. It follows our consonant blends reading books and is suitable for those who are just beginning to read with phonics. This is the first book to read in Level 1 and only includes words with CVC,CVCC/CCVC and ck words. These first phonic readers are suitable for use with all phonic programmes. Special features of the digraph reading books This series of books focuses exclusively on sounding out words and only uses a minimal number of key sight (red/tricky) words. These short words should be learned on a flashcard first but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. The words being introduced in the reading programme for the first time are listed at the beginning of each book. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. Many of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers giving repetition of vocabulary, to help develop confidence and fluency. Highly structured Very systematic There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help to make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, so aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Due to the highly systematic, phonetic nature of these books, they are very suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. They have been thoroughly tested by my current pupils all of whom are boys. Even my nine-year old boy pupil loves them. They can also be used with young EFL/ESL learners. Who is the ck reading book for? Beginner readers who can sound out/blend both CVC and CCVC/CVCC words with a short vowel sound and who now starting to learn the ck digraph .
