Sieve of Eratosthenes, 400 numbers

This printable sieve of Eratosthenes is 400 numbers long (instead of the usual 100). The Sieve of Eratosthenes is a good way to find small prime numbers. It goes as follows: 1. Cross out number 1 2. Circle next number that is not crossed out (the first one is 2) 3. Cross out numbers that are divisible by number you just circled Repeat faces 2 and 3 until there are nothing but primes left. This longer version gives interested students a possibility to examine further, how much prime numbers there are when we go further with the natural numbers. (This is interesting, because it kind of connects very simple school math with higher level mathematics. If students want to examine further, for example from Wikipedia, they will realize that the density of prime numbers (prime number theorem) is something that a number of very skilled mathematicians have spent countless hours with. Of course, knowing the first prime number is essential to survive with more complicated fractions in secondary mathematics (or higher). That way, faster students can find all the primes lower than 400 in the same time when some students may be able to find only the smaller ones. Each of these student groups will at the end of the day benefit from it. This one is free! The pdf is not editable and most suitable for printing and then doing with pencil and paper. This goes with different grade levels from upper elementary to high school.

'B' or 'D' PowerPoint Phonics Presentations

Do you have a pupil who is still confusing 'b' and 'd' in Grade 2 or 3 or above? Then help is at hand. I have created this 'B' or 'D' phonics presentation to help children like these. I have tried every method under the sun and find this one works best - the use of the 'b' hand. Here, attached to them, goes everywhere with them, is a ready-made tool with which to check 'b's' and 'd's'. NOTE: I deliberately do not teach a child that one hand can make a ‘b’ shape and the other a ‘d’. Children with a processing difficulty need things kept as simple as possible, and that could well make them even more confused. How will they remember which hand is which? They will not just have b/d confusion but hand confusion too! Therefore, do not suggest such to your child, and if they notice for themselves, agree and do not dwell on it. Instead, stress the use of the ‘b hand’ to help with the identification of ‘b’, and if it is not the same shape as the ‘b hand’, then it is a ‘d’. For 'd', we rely on correct letter formation, saying C-D to help the child train the muscles, which in turn trains the eyes. Help the child practice writing the letters as demonstrated in this video. The training of muscle memory is a valuable multisensory tool. The eyes, the ears, the mouth and the hand all work together. Who is the 'B' or 'D' phonics presentation for? This numbers reading comprehension contains the following: Visualize on the Cover (Teacher Read Aloud Script) Start your lesson by taking a few moments to visualize the topic and share thoughts or feelings about it. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. This resource is a comprehensive lesson that uses 20 bird-related vocabulary words. First off, you can introduce these words by using the PDF -based presentation. With the arrow keys, you just move from one word to another to make your students familiar with them. Next, You can hand out the vocabulary lists. Beware that these are made with color, so in order to be eco-friendly you might want to use black and white ink. Once the students have taken these lists home, they can do the vocabulary test in their next class. They can practice with the words by utilizing the included flash cards. These just need to be printed, laminated, and cut. Beware of sharp edges though. You can use the curved edges version to avoid annoying pinches. Finally, use the Wacky Words activity to have a really good time in class. With this, all the letters are mixed up. Students love this.
