This comprehensive literacy center focuses on AGE words, offering a hands-on activity that targets reading simple sentences. These mats help with reading comprehension skills as well as reading one and two syllable words. Included in this resource: 1 AGE word sentence mat Picture cards corresponding to the mat for matching purposes To complete this activity , students will read each AGE word sentence on the mat and then match the corresponding pictures. Students can work independently or with a partner, providing opportunities for cooperative learning. There are several ways to use these AGE word CVCe word family mats: Lay the images on top of the word or sentence. Utilize hook and loop fasteners to attach the images. Use a baking sheet and magnets to match the images. Students will appreciate the hands-on nature of this activity , as they can manipulate the images for a hands-on approach to show their learning. The bold and colorful images will capture students' attention, and the easily recognizable pictures will ensure their success in completing the activity . These literacy activities allow students to practice target words in the context of sentences. When to Use: Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these words Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher. Skills assessed through this activity include reading AGE words in context, as well as reading comprehension. The low-prep nature of this AGE words matching mats activity allow teachers to use little time when putting the center together. The mats simply need to be printed out, while the matching cards can be printed and cut. Lamination is optional for increased durability.

Here is a fun, print 'n play phonic game for the split digraph a-e! Help your pupils to grasp the tricky split digraph concept as they play! Who is the a-e game suitable for? All learners of phonics, including young children, SEN/special needs, ESL etc... Aims and Objectives Some children, when starting to learn about the long /a-e/ sound, will start to make every /a/ into a long /a-e/ sound. While this is common among all children, some children need more help to overcome this difficulty. Therefore, this game has two aims: 1.To help children to be able to hear the long vowel sound a-e in words 2.To help children understand that some words have a short /a/ and some have a long /a-e/; the child must listen to hear which word has which - not guess. How to play: This is a game for two or three players, one of whom should be an adult. The game can be played with either pictures or sounds. Each player takes a game board (either pictures or sounds) which will indicate whether the player should listen for words with a short /a/ sound or a long /a-e/ sound. The adult reads a word on the word card, and the pupils must listen for 'e' or no 'e'? If the pupil has the sound/ picture on his/her board, she/he covers up a space. the winner fills hi/her board first. Teaching tips: Help children to hear the vowel sound by emphasising it and stretching it out. Help the child to do this as well. Have fun - as this eases children over those tricky spots! This 'NG Endings' digraph PowerPoint is a taught lesson especially suitable for those who have special needs or need a slower pace. Special features of the 'NG' PowerPoint lesson No words are introduced that cannot be sounded out, except common the sight words a, the and have. It does however presume that the child can blend both CVC words and consonant blend words with a short vowel sound, like pond. and words with CK . There are no distractions for the special needs child to have to 'block out' before s/he can learn - no jingly music, no comic pictures. Nothing moves quickly. Everything is explained very simply. Sound buttons are provided for use if necessary. What is included in/with the 'NG' Digraph PowerPoint ? This 'NG' PowerPoint is a narrated lesson. The PowerPoint format means that you can go at a pace suitable for your pupils. It is just like having your own phonics teacher! There are 46 slides. We begin by introducing 'NG'. The PowerPoint then goes on to help the child to sound out words with 'NG' with the short vowels 'a', 'i', and 'o'. A phonic CVC Words Reading Book for young/SEN/ESL readers. This is the thirteenth of 16 phonic reading books to support the blending of CVC words with a short vowel sound, suitable for those who just beginning to read with phonics. These books are intended to be read in sequence for best effect. These books focus exclusively on sounding out words and they only use the key sight (red/tricky) words a, is, the, of, which are introduced only gradually. These short words should be learned on a flashcard first, but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. All of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers, to help develop confidence and fluency. The book s begins with just a few words being introduced. For example, the book CVC Reading Book 13 uses the words it, doll, picnic, cup, etc. The whole scope and sequence is included in the pack for your reference. Each book lists the sight word/s being used in that book at the beginning. There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help to make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, so aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Due to the systematic, phonetic nature of these books, they are highly suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner, or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. They have been thoroughly tested by my current pupils all of whom are boys. Even my nine-year old boy pupil loves them. They can also be used with young EFL/ESL learners.

This long vowel (u-e) decodable reading book can help children develop reading fluency. It is part of a series of highly structured decodable reading books with controlled vocab; all vocab is decodable using phonic knowledge the child already has (if read in sequence) and true irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. They follow on from our previous sets of: CVC Reading Books with matching workbooks Consonant Blends Reading Books with matching workbooks Level 1 Red Books. with matching workbooks These books are best read in sequence. This book contains words with the following sounds: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar, or, a-e, i-e and u-e. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. I am an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. Main features: •The Level 1 readers gently introduce sight words, but only those that cannot be learned in a phonetic family, or will be needed before the family has been studied. •All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. Pictures do not encourage guessing •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including special needs pupils with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long are the books? The reading books are either 8 or 12 pages long. Why are these books FREE when other people's books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading. The Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching Game is a simple activity for those just starting to learn the initial/beginning sounds. This game provides 2 activities in one, either matching letters (initial sounds) to pictures or pictures to letters (initial sounds). For use: In the classroom - centres, paired activities, intervention etc.. At home - by parents + home-educators Aim of the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: ·That the child will be able to match the correct letter to the correct picture by initial (or beginning) sound ·That children will hear the initial (or beginning) sound of a word ·That children will know the sound that each letter /a/ to /h/ stands for To prepare the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Choose either pictures or sounds to be the baseboard (you can always print it twice and play it both ways and this is recommended if the child needs extra practice). Cut up the boards not chosen as baseboards into individual cards. To play the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Scatter the cards (letter or picture as you have chosen) on the table face down. Players take turns to choose a card. The sound should be said - either the initial sound of the picture or the sound the letter stands for. A match should be attempted with the letters/pictures on the player's board. If a match is made, the card is placed on the corresponding square. If not, the card is returned, face down, to the table. The winner is the player who completes his/her board first. Teaching tips for the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Do give support as needed so that the child feels successful.
