Blossom Tree Craft
Creative Arts, Art, Science, Life Sciences, Biology, Not Grade Specific, Activities, Crafts
The Tree Blossom Craft is a fun resource for young children to complete; as part of science about trees/plants, to welcome spring, or simply to put into practice their fine motor skills! Ways to use the Tree Blossom Craft Activity: It can be used for art class, or for the study of trees/spring. It is best if the children's attention has been drawn to trees in blossom first as then the activity will be more meaningful to them. Work could then extend to the work of insects/ bees to pollinate the flowers - and then intrigue fostered to find out what happens next. A tree could then be studied and visited again to see the fruits appearing. The study of nature is the beginning of the study of science. A good teacher will take full advantage of every opportunity to guide her/his pupils to learn from it. Full Instructions for making a Tree in Blossom are provided The activity only needs simple resources, and it would be good if the children could help to gather twigs - or the teacher could bring them into class. You will need: Brown card Green Card Scissors Twigs Tissue paper: Pink, white and green PVA glue This activity is suitable for Grade K (Y1) and upwards. It is suitable for class/group or home education. Younger children could complete it with help. A total of 7 easy steps are included in the instructions. This activity is best implemented in small groups where the teacher, assistant, or parent is readily available to step in and help students. Older students may be able to work independently. During completion: name the parts of the tree such as trunk, branches, twigs, blossom/flowers. After completion: encourage students to name the parts of the tree while describing their own to each other. Children learn from repetition in different forms. a-e Decodable Reading Book Level 1: 24
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1,
This decodable reading book introduces words with the split digraph a-e. This is book 24 in a series of highly structured decodable phonic reading books. Together they form an early phonic reading scheme, which can be used with any program provided the child has learned the necessary sounds and sight words to read each book. They follow on from our previous sets of: CVC Reading Books with matching workbooks Consonant Blends Reading Books with matching workbooks Level 1 Red Books. with matching workbooks These books are best read in sequence. This book contains words with the following sounds: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar, or and a-e. Created by an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. Main features: •The Level 1 readers gently introduce sight words, but only those that cannot be learned in a phonetic family, or will be needed before the family has been studied. •All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words from all five vowel families are gradually introduced, starting with those in the /a/ family. 5 matching workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. Proper punctuation is only used in the last three books. This is deliberate; it helps all children to access the reading material, including those for whom the introduction of capital letters and strange marks can be very off-putting. Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including those with a special need, including dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long are the books? The reading books are either 8 or 12 pages long. Which words do the books contain? Only common sight words and decodable words with digraphs as listed above. Can children guess the text from the pictures? NO! Why are these books FREE when other people's books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading.

Explains how hard candy is made: sugar is cooked with water until thick, then cooled so it hardens. Describes why corn syrup matters in hard candy: it can help stop sugar crystals from forming so candy stays smooth and “glassy.” Shares historical background: candy on sticks appeared long ago (including the Middle Ages), and the “modern lollipop” has a cloudy history with early 1900s U.S. companies (including a story about George Smith and later trademarking). Explores word history: “lollipop” was recorded in 1796, with possible connections to “lolly” and “pop,” plus other ideas (including Romani words and candy apples on sticks). Learning Goals Students will describe what a lollipop is and how people eat it, using details from the text. Students will explain the steps that turn sugar and water into hard candy (cook, thicken, cool, harden). Students will explain how corn syrup affects hard candy by helping stop sugar crystals from forming. Students will identify key time references about lollipops (Middle Ages, early 1900s, 1796) and tell what the text says about each. Students will summarize what the passage says about where the name “lollipop” may have come from. Key Vocabulary From the Text crystals — tiny hard bits that can make candy feel gritty. gritty — rough, like sand. glassy — smooth and shiny, like glass. trademarked — legally protected a name for a product. spirals — twisty, swirl shapes. Cored Ed Encyclopedia Overview The Cored Ed Encyclopedia is a weekly series of lessons that you can pick up and use right away. These short readings fit into whatever time you have available. Each one includes a warm-up, a reading, and a set of questions, but it’s flexible — you can do just the reading, the full lesson, or skip the writing section if you need to. Each lesson focuses on a single topic so students don’t get lost. The writing is clear but never childish, making it perfect for grades two through five. Topics range from animals and science to history, inventions, and everyday things. No matter the level of the student, everyone should take away at least one new idea or fact from each lesson. The materials are easy to print, easy to explain, and require no setup. They work well for whole-class teaching, partner work, or independent study.

Bees Reading Comprehension Passage - Cored Ed Encyclopedia
ELA, Language Development, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Writing, Pre-Reading, Science, Insects, Life Sciences, Vocabulary, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Writing Prompts, Assessments, Quizzes and Tests, Quizzes, Lesson Plans
This bees reading comprehension with lesson plan includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. Quick pause—thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. Download links and encyclopedia index available here. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. Do some, do none, do all, completely optional - but you will feel reassured knowing every possibility is planned for. Includes summary writting question and additional facts. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions, written response questions have sample answers, vocabulary answers and if there is a summary question then a sample summary will be provided as well. Lesson Plan Included Customized lesson plan for this lesson is included.
