Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers: CK Words Book 4
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools

This Reading Intervention for Struggling Readers: CK Words Book 4 is the fourth in a series of books written to provide intervention for struggling readers by means of decodable reading books, written to build confidence and help the child attain fluency. This book is useful for reading intervention for older pupils, maybe even of 11+ who are struggling to read fluently, but who have a smattering of phonic knowledge but with gaps. This book provides longer passages of text, with plenty of practice reading /ck/ words. The pupil should be taught to read words such as jacket/pocket/ticket etc.. as well as basic /c/ words. The book gives practice in differentiating between confusion words such as back and black. It follows: Book 1 CVC Words Book 2 Consonant Blends Words Book 3 More Consonant Blends Words Who is this book for? Older pupils who can read, but who have a reading age well below their chronological age. Such children may struggle to read simple text with accuracy/fluency and thereby lack comprehension. It is not for pupils who are just beginning to read with phonics. Please see my Graded reading books for such pupils. It is convenient enough for parents to use with their children, as well as for use by teachers and private tutors. Outline and steps Having secured a child's blending skills with three and four sounds in books 1 to 3, we now start to strengthen the child's use of common digraphs, starting in this book with ck. As these children are not beginners, we now add words ending in /et/ (e.g. packet) as well as past tense words: rock - rocked. these should be studied before reading this book. I find that often these children need help to distinguish between similar words, such as back and black, and by retraining the child to read accurately using these simple texts - that do not look babyish - and then rebuilding from the bottom up, much progress can be made. I thought that my pupils would look with disdain at these books. I found the opposite; they were so relieved that at last somebody had actually given them a book they could read! Simply print on A4 paper, two on a page. Cut into individual A5 pages, and staple or bind them together to make a book. Purpose These books have been written and tried and tested on some of my older pupils (mainly boys I admit), and they have proved very helpful. Most of my pupils have a dyslexic type problem, involving poor processing skills. It is crucial that they build a secure foundation for reading ability to build upon. These books, used as described, will help to build that foundation. I am finding more and more such pupils desperate for help. You can help too! It is not hard but just needs a little understanding of the problem. What is included? 1 pdf with 8 pages, 2 reading passages and 3 fluency charts. This is a growing series of books. Find more here: Book 1 Book 2 Book 3 Book 4 Book 5 Book 6

'B' or 'D' PowerPoint Phonics Presentations
Phonics, Language Development, ELA, Special Resources, Special Education Needs (SEN), Preschool, Grade 1, Presentations, Teacher Tools

Do you have a pupil who is still confusing 'b' and 'd' in Grade 2 or 3 or above? Then help is at hand. I have created this 'B' or 'D' phonics presentation to help children like these. I have tried every method under the sun and find this one works best - the use of the 'b' hand. Here, attached to them, goes everywhere with them, is a ready-made tool with which to check 'b's' and 'd's'. NOTE: I deliberately do not teach a child that one hand can make a ‘b’ shape and the other a ‘d’. Children with a processing difficulty need things kept as simple as possible, and that could well make them even more confused. How will they remember which hand is which? They will not just have b/d confusion but hand confusion too! Therefore, do not suggest such to your child, and if they notice for themselves, agree and do not dwell on it. Instead, stress the use of the ‘b hand’ to help with the identification of ‘b’, and if it is not the same shape as the ‘b hand’, then it is a ‘d’. For 'd', we rely on correct letter formation, saying C-D to help the child train the muscles, which in turn trains the eyes. Help the child practice writing the letters as demonstrated in this video. The training of muscle memory is a valuable multisensory tool. The eyes, the ears, the mouth and the hand all work together. Who is the 'B' or 'D' phonics presentation for? Parents Teachers home educators Tutors How should it be used? This is a video. Run the video, but stop anytime your pupil needs extra space to think. What is included? 1 'B' or 'D' phonics presentation with 46 slides. Find more resources like this in the Lilibette's Resources store.

Phonic Reading Scheme for Older Students: AR Words Book 17
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools

This Ar Digraph decodable reading book is the 17th book in a series that can help children with special needs pupils develop reading fluency. Each book comes with a matching PowerPoint making it suitable for use in a range of settings. The Jack Stories, of which this book is one, introduces one phonic sound at a time, and subsequent books build on the vocabulary of the books before, constantly revising and reviewing learned sounds. Irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. Science of reading aligned. Based on the most up-to-date phonic research. These books should be read sequentially as they tell one long story, each telling a part. This book contains words with the following sounds: CK: OO, EE and SH and CH and ND Endings, TH and AR. The whole series to date can also be purchased as a growing bundle here, with a scope and sequence. This series has been written with the aid of one of my pupils, aged 8. He has drawn some of the pictures. What makes this phonic reading programme for special needs different? · It has its own, easy-to-download and print phonic reading books, making it accessible to many children worldwide. · Each book carefully builds on the vocabulary of those that have gone before, providing much repetition, without relying on predictable text. · Pictures aid the storyline without encouraging reading from the pictures – i.e. guessing. · The vocabulary is based on phonic families, which are introduced in a carefully planned way. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to the very minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. Typical signs that this programme can help: Those with dyslexia, or suspected of having dyslexia Difficulty recalling words when seen on flashcards or when reading texts, which results in no or little reading fluency b/d letter reversal of a chronic nature – i.e. the child has not grown out of it Difficulty ordering letters in words: E.g. top becomes pot. Difficulty differentiating between like words: spoon/soon; back/black; sheep/sleep etc… Difficulty tracking words across a page How long is the book? The reading book is 16 pages long. What is included? 1 PDF 16 pp X A5 Print as a booklet Flip on the short edge One 16-slide PowerPoint

Phonic Reading Scheme for Older Students: OA: Book 30 + 31
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools

This set of 2 OA decodable reading books + matching PowerPoints + 38 supporting worksheets is part of a series that can help children with special needs pupils develop reading fluency. Each book has a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for various settings. This book is set in Saxon England. This book contains words with the following sounds: CK: OO, EE and SH and CH, ND & NT Endings, TH, AR, OR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI, EA, OA. The series of books can also be purchased as a growing bundle with a scope and sequence - one file, less clutter! This series has been written with the aid of one of my pupils, aged 9. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to a minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. 30 Worksheets to support the development of reading fluency The worksheets take the pupil from hearing the new sound in words, developing phonemic awareness, to reading passages in preparation for reading the book. It includes the following activities: Spelling Reading Tracking phonemic awareness Reading passages Typical signs that this programme can help: Those with dyslexia, or suspected of having dyslexia Difficulty recalling words when seen on flashcards or when reading texts, which results in no or little reading fluency b/d letter reversal of a chronic nature – i.e. the child has not grown out of it Difficulty ordering letters in words: E.g. top becomes pot. Difficulty differentiating between like words: spoon/soon; back/black; sheep/sleep etc… Difficulty tracking words across a page How long is the book? The reading book is 16 pages long. What is included? 1 PDF 16 pp X A5 and 1 PDF 12pp X A5 Print as a booklet Flip on the short edge Two PowerPoints 38 Worksheets

u-e Decodable Reading Book Level 1: 31
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1,

This long vowel (u-e) decodable reading book can help children develop reading fluency. It is part of a series of highly structured decodable reading books with controlled vocab; all vocab is decodable using phonic knowledge the child already has (if read in sequence) and true irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. They follow on from our previous sets of: CVC Reading Books with matching workbooks Consonant Blends Reading Books with matching workbooks Level 1 Red Books. with matching workbooks These books are best read in sequence. This book contains words with the following sounds: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar, or, a-e, i-e and u-e. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. I am an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. Main features: •The Level 1 readers gently introduce sight words, but only those that cannot be learned in a phonetic family, or will be needed before the family has been studied. •All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. Pictures do not encourage guessing •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including special needs pupils with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long are the books? The reading books are either 8 or 12 pages long. Why are these books FREE when other people's books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading. What is included? 1 PDF Print as a booklet Flip on the short edge
