This OR Digraph decodable reading book + matching PowerPoint for guided reading is part of a series that can help children with special needs pupils develop reading fluency. Each book has a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for various settings. This book tells the story of Caligula's attempt to conquer Britain. The Jack Stories, of which this book is one, introduces one phonic sound at a time, and subsequent books build on the vocabulary of the books before, constantly revising and reviewing learned sounds. Irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. Science of reading aligned. Based on the most up-to-date phonic research. What makes this phonic reading programme for special needs different? · It has its own, easy-to-download and print phonic reading books, making it accessible to many children worldwide. · Each book carefully builds on the vocabulary of those that have gone before, providing much repetition, without relying on predictable text. · Pictures aid the storyline without encouraging reading from the pictures – i.e. guessing. · The vocabulary is based on phonic families, which are introduced in a carefully planned way. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to a minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. 20 Beginning Sounds Worksheets: Phonemic Awareness Activities This set of 20 fun, Find and Color worksheets for initial blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One sheet for each of the following blends is included in the pack: tw, sw, sk, st, sn, sm, sp bl, cl. fl. gl, pl, sl, br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on each worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheets unaided once they have been instructed, although with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear each consonant blend at the beginning of a word. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as possible, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature, they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Longtime fans have been asking us to make this long vowel resource for a while, and we have finally decided to take the plunge. It turned out to be a pretty awesome resource. First off, use the PDF based digital file to introduce these long vowel sounds to your students. You just open the file and show it full screen. Then use the arrow keys to go from one page to another. This way you can also stop the slideshow if something is too difficult for your students. After this, you can give them the digital multiple choice test. The correct answer will be circled in green and the incorrect ones are red. This makes it abundantly clear what the right answer is. But there are a bunch of printable files as well. How about the vocab lists en tests? And then there are the flash cards too, either with round or with sharp corners. All and all, a very complete resource to practice long vowel sounds.

Do you have a pupil who is still confusing 'b' and 'd' in Grade 2 or 3 or above? Then help is at hand. I have created this 'B' or 'D' phonics presentation to help children like these. I have tried every method under the sun and find this one works best - the use of the 'b' hand. Here, attached to them, goes everywhere with them, is a ready-made tool with which to check 'b's' and 'd's'. NOTE: I deliberately do not teach a child that one hand can make a ‘b’ shape and the other a ‘d’. Children with a processing difficulty need things kept as simple as possible, and that could well make them even more confused. How will they remember which hand is which? They will not just have b/d confusion but hand confusion too! Therefore, do not suggest such to your child, and if they notice for themselves, agree and do not dwell on it. Instead, stress the use of the ‘b hand’ to help with the identification of ‘b’, and if it is not the same shape as the ‘b hand’, then it is a ‘d’. For 'd', we rely on correct letter formation, saying C-D to help the child train the muscles, which in turn trains the eyes. Help the child practice writing the letters as demonstrated in this video. The training of muscle memory is a valuable multisensory tool. The eyes, the ears, the mouth and the hand all work together. Who is the 'B' or 'D' phonics presentation for?
