CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U

Here is a simple game to help children learn to read CVC words with the medial sounds O and U. This game will help your child to learn to blend three-letter words with the short vowels ‘o’ and 'u'. That means, to put sounds together to make a word. The child has to be able to feel and hear the word that is being sounded out. This game is supplied in both colour and black and white - you choose how you print! We suggest laminating the pieces for durability. Who is the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U? Those who are just beginning to sound out/blend CVC words with the O and U short vowel sounds. These may be: Young learners Special needs learners ESL/EFL learners of any age. Who can use the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U? Parents Homeschoolers/home educators Teachers in class, or for use in centers Those involved in intervention work Private tutors How can the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U be used? It can be played as a game for 2 players It can be used as a matching activity for individual pupils - great for centers! It can be used for assessment purposes The game pages can even be used as worksheets - you choose! To make the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U Simply print out the two baseboards. Print out the word cards and cut them up. Teach your pupil to take care of the cards and not bend them more than can be helped. To play the CVC Words Phonic Matching Game: O and U Take a baseboard each. Scatter the word cards face down. Take it in turns to take a word card. Read it. If it matches a picture on your baseboard, place it in the correct space. If not, return it to the pool of cards. Play continues until someone completes their board, or until all the cards are used up. Teaching tips: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your turn and invite your pupil’s help when it is your turn, so s/he gets even more practice. Your pupil will need a lot of blending practice so be patient. If your pupil has difficulty sounding out these words then spend more time practicing blending before playing the game again. Beginning Sounds Matching Game

Students can practice recognizing the beginning sounds in words with this matching game. The bold, colorful, and easy to recognize images will assist students in completing this activity independently or with a partner. The colorful nature of this game will keep students engage as they match each picture to its beginning sound. What is Included There 136 different picture cards in two different formats, one with just the picture and one with the picture and the word with the beginning sound missing for students to fill in. capital and lowercase letter cards for students to match with each picture. How to Use: This set of cards can be used as a traditional matching game, where students work together or independently to match each picture to the beginning sound. This set can be used as a concentration game where students lay all the cards face down and they work to match the picture with its beginning sound or to match two cards with the same beginning sound. The picture cards with words can be laminated and students can use dry erase markers to write the beginning sound of each word on the blank line. Students can match the capital and lowercase letters. Where to Use: Literacy Centers - These beginning sound cards can be placed inside a literacy center for students to work alone or with a partner to complete. Morning Bins - These cards can be used as a morning activity for students to complete while waiting on classmates to arrive to class. These books are intended to follow our CVC Reading books. Suitable for use with all phonic programmes. Special features of these consonant blend reading books The focus is purely on sounding out with only the keywords I, and go, to being gradually introduced. The pictures are deliberately kept minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. Phonic words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers, to help develop confidence and fluency. The stories are based around farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, dog Jiff and the cat. Highly suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. How to use these consonant blends phonic reading books Use one-to-one with a pupil for the best effect They can also be enlarged for a small group, guided reading purposes They are great to send home for extra reading practice, after having read the book in class. What is included in the download? 1 Zip file with 12 PDF files - 1 for each reading book. Print on A4 paper, fold and staple into A5 booklets. Most books are either 8 or 12 pages long. This EE decodable reading book can help children develop reading fluency. With a matching PowerPoint, is ideally suited to Guided Reading. It is part of a series of highly structured decodable reading books with controlled vocab; all vocab is decodable using phonic knowledge the child already has (if read in sequence) and true irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. This book is the next in our new series for budding historians who may be older pupils and may have special needs and need a more mature storyline than cats and dogs! It follows on from our previous sets of ' Learn to Read' packs covering the 5 vowels so the pupil is expected to be able to blend 3 and 4 sounds securely and be ready to read words with /oo/. It can be used as a stand-alone decodable reading book provided a child can blend CVC/CCVC/CVCC words and has learned the sound oo. These books are best read in sequence. This book contains words with the following sounds: oo. This series has been written with the aid of one of my pupils, aged 8. He writes his ideas and draws pictures and then I formulate them into a fool-proof reading book using only decodable words. Reading Made Simple for Special Needs A 100% systematic phonic reading programme for all ages and abilities. Give your child a Head start in reading! Due to its 100% systematic nature, this reading programme is highly suitable for any child with a special need, including dyslexia (or suspected), or any other need that is causing a child to have difficulties learning to read. What makes this reading programme different? · It has its own, easy-to-download and print phonic reading books, making it accessible to many children worldwide. · Each book carefully builds on the vocabulary of those that have gone before, providing much repetition, without relying on predictable text. · Pictures aid the storyline without encouraging reading from the pictures – i.e. guessing. · The vocabulary is based on phonic families, which are introduced in a carefully planned way. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to the very minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. Typical signs that this programme can help: · Difficulty recalling words when seen on flashcards or when reading texts, which results in no or little reading fluency · b/d letter reversal of a chronic nature – i.e. the child has not grown out of it · Difficulty ordering letters in words: E.g. top becomes pot. · Difficulty differentiating between like words: spoon/soon; back/black; sheep/sleep etc… · Difficulty tracking words across a page To help all children succeed, each phonic family is taught in two lessons, each a week in duration. This speed has been tried and tested to be the optimum speed to allow children to absorb new information without mental overload. You may find that some children need longer - but never less. Each phonic family is split into half and only 5/6 words in a family are studied each week. Activities are provided to give the child plenty of exposure to the new sound and the set of words that contain it. These activities are not hard, but simply bring the child face to face with the words, first individually, then in sentences, and finally in longer passages. We also seek to strengthen knowledge of blends and develop phonemic awareness through the activities, much needed by these learners. In all, the way that Reading Made Simple has been designed reduces the burden on the working memory, making it easier for children to learn to read. Children relax as they meet familiar words again and again. They begin to say – sometimes for the first time, ‘I can read’. With this programme, you can help a non-reader today! How long are the books? The reading books are 12 pages long. Why are these books FREE when other people's books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced to help as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading. Mixed Questions The mixed questions section of each lesson includes a variation of fivecomprehension, vocabulary and math questions. In addition, key reading strategies are frequently covered including cause & effect, summarizing, compare & contrast and making conclusions. Three of the questions will be MCQs and two will require a written response of some kind. Full answers and example responses appear at the end of the lesson. Spelling & Vocab Each reading passage contains a variety of words and phrases designed for Grade 2-3 students. Spelling and vocab activities provide the opportunity to build fluency with these words. As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts.
