I can count by 10's to 100 or 120 on a hundreds chart

I can count by 10's to 100 or 120 on a hundreds chart
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Numbers, Place Value, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Charts, Teacher Tools

Discover a great way to explore the fascinating world of skip counting with this interactive 'I Can Count By 10’s to 100 or 120' worksheet ! Give your young mathematicians a chance to get comfortable and confident with the hundreds chart or the 120 chart, while they learn to skip count up to 100 (or even 120)! One way to help kids practice skip counting by 10’s is to have them use a 100 or 120 chart. A 100 or 120 chart has all the numbers from 1-100 or 120 listed in order. To skip count by 10’s using a 100 chart, have your mathematicians find the numbers that are ten numbers apart and highlight them or circle them. So, they would highlight or circle the numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and so on. When students use a highlighter to highlight each number they say in the skip counting sequence, the end result is a useful visual aid for learners to refer to when skip counting. K.CC.A.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens. K.CC.A.2 Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1). 1.OA.C.5 Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2). 1.NBT.A.1 Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral. 1.NBT.C.5 Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used. 2.OA.C.3 Determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g., by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends. 2.NBT.A.2 Count within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s.

"The Place for Us" Comprehension Activity
ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Grade 2, 3, 4, Activities

If you are searching for resources to support the reading comprehension of your students, you’ll want something more than just answering multiple choice questions. Questioning is certainly a way to assess comprehension, but there are other components that can be included to assess this skill as well. This is a “The Place for Us” Comprehension Activity. It is for elementary students in 2nd – 4th grade. The objective is for students to demonstrate understanding of a passage by correctly completing given tasks. There are 4 pages included. The breakdown is as follows: Page 1 – A page long reading passage titled “The Place for Us.” You can read this as a whole group, have students read it with a partner or have them read it independently. Encourage students to highlight or circle words or parts of the story that feel important to them. Page 2 – A vocabulary graphic organizer . Students will find the 3 bolded words from the story and use them on this page. For each word, students will write a definition, give an example, illustrate a picture, and use the word in a sentence. Page 3 – Problem and Solution Graphic Organizer . Students will use the graphic organizers to outline details from the story in order to uncover the problem and solution. Page 4 – Asking and Answering Questions. Students will write two questions that they might ask someone to answer about the text under the “question” headings below. A friend will underline the answer in the text in purple and write the answer below. Each of these pages require students to revisit the passage and analyze it from a different perspective, which in turn furthers their comprehension for what they have read. I hope you enjoy! The Constitution is A Living Document: A Project to Assess Knowledge and Understanding

The Constitution is A Living Document: A Project to Assess Knowledge and Understanding
Social Studies, Government, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Projects, Activities

The most important thing about this project, The Consitution is a Living Document, is how students truly internalize how the Constitution is not just some old stuffy document but really is alive in our lives and protects our rights and our democracy. I have had students come back to me when they are in high school to tell me how much they got out of this project. I have also had several students tell me they helped their immigrant parents pass the citizenship test. They were able to teach their parents about our government. My favorite is how many 8th-grade students tell me they are now interested in current events and regularly follow the news! The purpose of this project, The Consitution is a Living Document, is to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of the Constitution. The project is divided into 3 sections. The first section focuses on the Constitution, particularly Articles 1, 2, and 3. They will write an essay and then read 3 news articles that connect to each of these articles. They will summarize the articles and analyze how this news event connects to each of these articles. In Section 2, students will write an essay on the Bill of Rights and Amendments and read 7 more current events news articles, summarize them, and then analyze how each event connects to a specific amendment. The third section includes a Conclusion essay in which they reflect back on what they learned about themselves, doing a project of this magnitude, and about the Constitution, and a Bibliography. This is a comprehensive project and will take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. For each section, I provide lesson plans with objectives and learning targets aligned with the Common Core Standards. teacher directions, student directions, handouts, graphic organizers, check-off sheets, and rubrics. This project could be easily modified to fit a shorter time frame. With modifications, it is appropriate for students in 6th through 12th grades. This project is part of my unit: “Our Living Consitution” which is designed using the Into, Through, and Beyond model of lesson planning. This project can be taught independently, but it is an excellent summative assessment for all my lessons on the Constitution in my unit. The lessons in the Constitution unit can be used independently or as a supplement to what you already teach or as a whole. Here is a summary of what is in the unit: Into Lessons: Creating Schema Lesson 1: Overview of the Constitution of the United States of America Slideshow and Notetaker Lesson 2: Origins of the Constitution Essential Terms and Notetaker Lesson 3: The Seven Principles of the Constitution Through Lessons: Learning the Content Lesson 4: The Goals of the Preamble, which includes a Preamble Project Lesson 5: The Three Branches of Government: Articles 1, 2, and 3 Lesson 6: How a Bill Becomes a Law and Project Lesson 7: Federalism and the System of Checks and Balances Lesson 8: Articles 4-7 Lesson 9: The Bill of Rights Unit (and a Little About Amendments 11-27) Extras (from the Unit: Every Four Years… The Presidential Election) Lesson 10: What Are Your Political Viewpoints? Lesson 11: Major and Minor Political Parties Lesson 12: A Brief History of Who Can Vote Lesson 13: Nuts and Bolts of the Presidential Election Beyond Lessons: Summative Assessments Study Guides and Tests are included, with many of the lessons Two Comprehensive Projects to Assess Knowledge and Understanding: --The Constitution is a Living Document Project --The Bill of Rights Explained Project

Moon vs. Earth

Moon vs. Earth
Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Space, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

During an astronomy unit or a time in science class where students are studying planets, you may want to find a variety of resources that will support their learning. This can be used with your elementary students in 2nd – 5th grade. The objective is for students to have a deeper understanding of the moon and the Earth and be able to identify the differences and similarities between the two. This is a short, sweet packet to use as you and your students explore the similarities and differences between the moon and Earth. I use the first page as a springboard for discussion about what the students notice about the two. There is an answer sheet for the second page and the third page gives one last visual that they’ve created to show the physical differences in a nutshell. I often pair this activity with the book If You Decide to Go to the Moon by Faith McNulty! I hope you enjoy!
